Very nice photos. Looks very typical of just about anywhere in these 3 great prairie provinces (at least once you get north of the wheat belt). I could easily see this or similar type pictures from Elk Island National Park 30 mins east of Edmonton.

If I could (but I can't), I would post several pictures of our large great lakes or from areas of the shield; some things that would seperate us for both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

All the pictures were taken near my house, or near Lac Du Bonnet. I pretty much live in the transaction area where the prairies switch in the Boreal Forest and the sheild. The odd massive rockform are found around here. Actually most of the forests that would of been around here where teared down to make fields. All those pictures are probably the type of such you'll find in the prairies.

I also never posted any winter pictures yet.

^^^ Nice Pictures.

Reminds me of the badlands, and the reefs in the Atlantic provinces.

I was always amazed by the size of Lake Winnipeg, like a never ending sea.

Here an odd picture I took once.

A squirral on one pole, a bird on the other. You can kind of see the sand hills popping out a little in the background.

You act like theres no big lakes in those two provinces. Sure, nothing is as big as Lake Winnipeg. You act like theres no Canadian shield out there as well. The geograph, climate and vegetation in all three prairie provinces are similar. Some have a little more of something, and little less of something, but you can find similar zones in each prairie province.

Anywho, thanks for posting pictures. Reminds me why Canada is such a great place to live and visit.

Those are great pics!! ... I especially miss the amazing beaches around Winnipeg. There are no such beaches, I am aware of, in Alberta.

All for the best I guess, as most of the lakes are ice cold around here anyways... and the cool summer season doesn't make the best beach weather. I can't wait for my summer trip back to the peg and the amazing beaches!!!

I never realized how huge Winnipeg River is ... it sure looks wide in that photo... or is that just the angle of the picture.

And you act like no one else can voice their opinion around here.

All I am saying is that there is individual flavor to each province, and that is something we should all feel proud about. Sheesh.

The Winnipeg River is about 1.5 to 2 times as big as the Red, and even wider in some spots. Especially with all the dams along it. Actually it's probably the widest river in southern Manitoba by a long shot.

The photos are taken from http://www.manitobaphotos.com/steep.htm

Steep rock in on the eastern shore of Lake Mantoba (1.5 hours from downtown Winnipeg), see the page for details of the location.

Nice out this morning and snowing.

Took this pic. Not that great, but at least a winter picture is in there now.

Absolutely. It's damn near a kilometre across in many places (averages well over 500m for most of the cottage country, I'm sure), and with the dams it can get even wider. I forget the highway #, but there's an AMAZING bridge/causeway over the Winnipeg that seems to just go on forever. Haven't been by there in years.

By comparison, the Red is maybe 150-300 metres across.

Thanks! You know, I've only camped along the Lake MB once...I'll make the trip there this year for sure.
