I also like the copper, one of my favourite architectural materials. Patina's so nicely, and makes modern structures feel a little less cold in my opinion. As for the type of "copper-coloured metal" they use, it could end up a number of ways. I believe this has come up a few times in past conversation, but it may have been in the Regina thread.

I like the copper too. I think it adds a lot to the look of the building. The building without the copper seems somehow a bit shapeless.

That view is amazing!

Yikes, that looks like a LOT of concrete grinding, I thought the floors were to be exposed and polished?

Clearly all we have to do is keep building galleries and museums and the economy will boom. Those figures are laughable.

I just stumbled upon a photo of the Halifax Central Library and did a double take...

Never knew there was already such a similar looking building in Canada.

I was aware of this building. I think that the design is meant to emulate a stack of books.

Committee gets progress report on Remai Modern Art Gallery

By Bryn Levy, CKOM News

February 9, 2016

An update on construction of the Remai Modern art gallery was presented Tuesday at a meeting of the city's environment, utilities and corporate services committee.

In the report, officials noted that substantial progress has been made. About 65 per cent of the drywall is estimated to be complete, alongside between 80 and 90 per cent of the duct work for the heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

They also pointed out that elevators are being installed and a feature staircase in the buildings' main foyer is also complete.

Recent update and tour indicates Remai Modern is 90% complete and is hoping for early 2017 opening. Will be such a great iconic amenity on the riverbank....IF and when the riverlanding project gets going, that will be an impressive piece of real estate in Saskatoon.

Another year to do just 10%? This project sounds like a huge fiasco. It looks like the final cost will be over $110 million - double the original budget.

I'm guessing it's a few months to do the 10%. The construction estimates wouldn't include the time to install exhibits and those sorts of things that are needed to be done to have a functioning gallery.

rRemai mModern has released their new branding for gallery and website. I have some experience in marketing and communications and I have to say I am pretty much underwhelmed by the product the New York company produced. And why go to a new york company...there are many quality and well respected agencies in Sask and Canada...just saying....

This modern 1970's era design? yikes.. Did someone stutter and just run with it?

Branding aside, nice looking building.

Aside from the cost, I don't mind it at all. Much better than the Mendel's in my opinion.

I'm also not completely up-to-date with SK design firms, but from what I typically see from local designers is the same old using the same trendy tricks, so I'm glad that this is at least unique.

Yeah, im not exactly impressed either. I feel like they could have spent some money and had a contest and gotten a better design but I don't hate it. The rR mM thing I don't get at all. Am I supposed to read it like I'm stuttering? Is it significant for some reason I don't understand?
