What brought you there during the winter? Most tourists go in the summer. I guess the Tyrell is open year round.
We were there during Ontario's March Break. It was very quiet due to Alberta's kids still being at school. I have a special needs son who gets overwhelmed easily in large crowds, so having a quiet hotel with the pool and waterslide to ourselves helped make the trip comfortable for him.

We came to visit the Tyrell last year and loved it and the Raddison hotel where we stayed, so as we were spending a week in Alberta, took the opportunity to visit again and have some quiet days inbetween staying in Edmonton and Calgary.

Huh, I didn't realize March break wasn't everywhere. Of course it makes sense that it isn't, but I'd never actually thought about it.

To be fair the Lac Leamy's Casino is in a nice setting compared to other casinos. At least the side overlooking the lake, the other side is hideous but it is also far enough that we don't really see it, except for a quick glimpse during the 1 minute drive between the highway and the casino entrance.

That's what I was thinking too.

And the casino building/complex itself (both inside and outside) isn't bad looking either - as far as casinos go.

^ Quebec is the only place in Canada that I am aware of with classy casinos. This casino is the only one in the entire country I am aware of that I would even go so far as to describe as 'nice'

Damn, I've never seen that before.

Reminds me of this trippy place I stumbled across in Florida. The billionaire founder of Dominoes Pizza, Tom Monaghan, wanted to create this town "in the image of god." Basically bought a bunch of land in Florida to make a Catholic community built around this big church where there would be no contraceptives or pornography sold, everything closes on Sunday, and any other vice that you're 75 year-old grandmother would scorn you for is banned.

And that building wasn't even originally built to house a casino. That's gotta be telling us something!

Would be a good setting for a horror movie.

That's because Quebec casinos are owned by Loto-Quebec. I don't think it's possible to just open a casino in the province (except in Native Reserves), they're meant to be classy places.

And yet, 99% of the time you see a casino portrayed in movies or tv they're full of beautiful young sexy people with big smiles and expensive vanity cars.

Even Monte Carlo's isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

Though in fairness our casino does have this. And this isn't just a promo video with actors.

Well they just crammed a casino inside a really nice existing structure. So it's a bit of a cheat .

If you're into flash cars its great. I was there a bit over a year ago and the casino is a nice building but it seems like a bit of a faded glory type of place.

It reminds me of a classy James Bond villain’s lair.

That is creepy AF and I grew up Catholic. The Ontario one still wins though for its’ cameo in John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness.

Great movie. Honestly, even before seeing it I thought the Markham cathedral had a creepy vibe to it.

Cathedraltown looks even worse in the winter:

Cathedraltown is creepy as shit and pretty ugly. But it has a grid pattern, main street with businesses and mostly laneway fronting garages. So still doing more things right than most suburbs in Canada... let that sink in for a bit.
