Apple retail store coming to North Star Mall

Tech geeks and computer lovers who want to test-drive Apple iPods, iPhones and MacBook Air notebooks soon will have another place to do just that.

Apple Inc. plans to add a retail store at North Star Mall this summer, about three years after the computer company opened its first San Antonio location at the Shops at La Cantera.

The new store has begun hiring, but an exact date for the store's opening has not been set, said Drew McCurdy, who will manage the new location.

The new Apple shop will have “the same look and feel” as the existing San Antonio store, McCurdy said, but Apple isn't yet saying how the store will compare in size to the La Cantera location. A North Star Mall official also declined to comment.

The new Apple store will be located on the first level at North Star, next to Ann Taylor and across from Williams-Sonoma, McCurdy said.

The La Cantera store has drawn throngs of shoppers, especially on weekends, since it opened at the same time as the shopping center, in the summer of 2005.

“Any Apple store is going to be a place of interest where you can come and get your hands on the product,” McCurdy said. “Our stuff is not locked up — it's for customers, both new and experienced.”

California-based Apple now has 12 retail stores in Texas, according to the company's Web site. At the end of 2007, Apple had 213 stores worldwide, including 185 in the United States, a spokeswoman said.

So now, every major metro in Texas has at least two Apple Stores. Austin has two, SA now has two, DFW has four, and Houston has five.

Fry's is the greatest store in the history of the world. If they had groceries I would never need to shop anywhere else.

Oddly enough that's how they got started. Fry's grocery stores still exist but have a different ownership than the electronics chain.

Fry's are everywhere in Tucson & Phoenix. I know there is at least one or two Electronic stores in phoenix area.

Doesn't matter....all grocery stores are just too damn expensive.

Food City for this guy.
