Photo Request - Vancouver

Hi!

I'm in search for a better photo of this thing:

If I understand it correctly there are some kind of historic photos on those screens. I need a photo in better resolution where you can see that it is pictures.

Does anyone have a pic of this that I could use? It's for my work, I'm writing a piece on how to visualize history in the city.

Thanks in advance. (You can PM me, or post in this thread.)

olga

Street Light, 1997

Artists: Bernie Miller and Alan Tregebov
Location: South foot of Davie Street (Yaletown)
Bronze I-beams support images taken from Vancouver's archives. The sculpture is carefully aligned to cast shadow images onto the sidewalk on the anniversary of the selected historical event. The form of the sculpture suggests Vancouver's transformation from an industrial centre to an information age economy.

Quote:
It is a large outdoor structure, reminescent of a billboard in ruin, instead of a single image it has a number of perforated panels. The panels are arranged in such a way that when the sun shines through the perforations on a specific day a digital-type photographic image comes into focus on the side walk, or the street. The images are from the unofficial history of the immediate community.
There are other artworks nearby that have historical content, including "Welcome to the land of light".

^I hate when public art isn't maintained.

Does anyone here walk by East Hastings and Campbell on a regular basis? Is "Working Landscape" still working? It's supposed to move extremely slowly.

well last time i paid attention last summer it seemed to be working

i have noticed a lot of the M line stations art is no longer working

the lighted boxed atop holdem used to change colours - i don't think they do anything anymore

and the sappaerton bicycle seemed to stop working months after the station opened - abuse? or what?

I would take a picture for you, but I'm over here in Victoria. (Vancouver is to Victoria as Copenhagen is to Malmo. )

The first time I saw it was at the 2005 SSP forum meetup. I'm sure one of the downtowners will snap a close-up for you.

Thanks a lot, but it's OK. I actually just found some even better pics by googling the artist's name.
