Regional Town Centres

Interesting Price Tags post on Regional Town Centres:

http://pricetags.wordpress.com/2012/...w-town-centre/

With a link to a website on them:

http://davidpereira.ca/

Includes historical info like this map of the original four Regional Town Centres
(Phase 1: Metrotown and New Westminster; Phase 2: Surrey and [Port] Coquitlam)

and Surrey's original plan (the Bell Plan) for a combined Whalley-Guildford Town centre (which was deemed "too big" by GVRD).

Awesome stuff thanks for posting.
It's interesting how long ago metro Vancouver planners were thinking ahead when the rest of North America (aside from a few cities) is only now starting to wake up.

Thanks for posting. I used to live in the Brentwood area and am quite interested in the recent developments taking place. Very surprised to read that the plan for the community dates back to the 60s and is only now taking shape.

Thanks a lot for sharing this link OD. Very interesting stuff! Since I recently moved to Burnaby I've been really interested in learning its history and past planning decisions and this link is an excellent resource.

I devoured everything from that site. Lots of great information. It is strange how everything has come full circle from what they were planning to begin with.

Lougheed Town Centre page is up, and unsurprisingly there is a lot of very interesting information I never knew before. In particular is the initial plan for SFU which called for a "1,619 hectare master planned community encompassing most of the northeast sector of the municipality, relating to the new Simon Fraser University". Would have made for a very different region if this had come through.
