NHL 2012-2013 thread

Hopefully the 2012-2013 season is no repeat of the 2004-2005 one.

Nobody seems too worried about it. Bettman hasn't even set a date to start negotiations so maybe it's already a done deal. Or maybe not...

Oilers may just win the cup.

Is 2004-2005 the year when there was no hockey? That was nice. No riots, no vulgar cheering from the neighbours.

Hopefully the Flames can pick a player like Baertschi again this year, the cupboards aren't quite bare, but they aren't exactly full either.

And just before that season, we had a Canadian team make it all the way to game 7 and lose, also without riots.

The ultimate fate of Phoenix is still up in the air. Rumours are that New Jersey may be declaring bankruptcy (and taken over by the league a la Phoenix) any day now. And San Jose is bleeding red ink to the tune of $15 million. I think a lot of owners would welcome a work stoppage as it would help them lose less money.

CBA negotiations are JUST starting, so I'm not sure I'd agree with the previous comments that no one seems worried. No one's gonna show their hand until well into the summer. Fehr isn't known for playing light, and with the league losing a TON of money in so many cities, I see a lot of fighting.

San Jose is losing money? I thought they sold out almost every game. Was definitely a busy rink the one game I went to...

So is the re-alignment off then? it shouldn't be hard to have Nashville and Winnipeg switch divisions...

Very easy in a perfect world, it's just that the NHLPA grasps at things like that move as some sort of leverage with the BOG.

Teams may also to be re-aligned when the Coyotes move to QC.

That was called off months ago, unfortunately. The PA veto'd it from what I recall.

Their only realignment option was the really huge change involving 8-team divisions and whatnot. There is no other plan to move Winnipeg from the east - the NHL has to do what it can to continue to punish the WHA cities, I guess.

Not this year. I guarantee you Winnipeg will be in the SE and Quebec in the Pacific for a full season. If not several.

My guess is we draft Galchenyuk tomorrow.

Despite being called the Canadiens, the Habs are the team that drafts the most Americans in the first round.

Since 2007, 3 of our 5 first round selections have been US guys with Tinordi, McDonagh, Pacioretty.

Gally is my choice for tommorow. I really like his game.

BTW-Congrats to Patches for that Masterson! Now let's win a more important trophy next season.

The Kings only play the Leafs once? Weak.

Agreed. And it's an away game.. I was looking forward to seeing the Kings come to Toronto.

And Pacioretty absolutely didn't deserve the Masterton. The guy who was out for a lot longer with a potentially fatal blood infection, then came back and had a much better season deserved it. But Pacioretty's injury was "sexier" so he got it. It's almost as if that award has no real meaning anymore.

Also Weber was robbed for the 2nd year in a row.

LOL, everyone nominated for that Award deserve it. Some didn't even get nominated and should have won (Fleischmann, his story is pretty incredible) it but what can you do, someone has to win.
