YESSSS!!! Signing Moen before July 1st was a priority for me. It's below 2M per year so we didn't even overpay. What an amazing cap hit!

Quote:
MONTREAL -- Veteran forward Travis Moen has elected to remain a Montreal Canadien for another four seasons.

The 30-year-old potential free agent agreed to a US$7.2 million, four-year contract with the club on Friday. He is to earn $1.8 million per season after getting $1.5 million in each of the last three campaigns in Montreal.

"Travis brings tremendous leadership to our club and is very appreciated by his teammates," general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement, adding he was glad to sign him before the free agent market opens on Sunday.

I like what Bergevin is doing so far...

Great! I give Bergevin an A so far...

Habs ink Alexei Emelin to a 2-year deal

Quote:
MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Saturday the signing of defenseman Alexei Emelin to a two-year contract (2012-13 and 2013-14). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

This is tampering. Schultz wanted to play near his home town with the Canucks, but Gretzky cast some kind of spell on him. Now the poor kid's stuck in Edmonton.

You nucks fans sure are great. You sure like to give it, but when your given it back you all start whining like the team you support.

Stuck in Edmonton? He obviously didn't like Vancouvers team for obvious reasons. Looks forward to playing with future all stars like Hall, Eberle, Nugent. Didn't choose to play with the divers and whiners that are know as your Vancouver Canucks!

The spell is great hockey with the up side of being a contender again.

No one is stuck in Edmonton....In Hockey or other wise. We think this is a really good city with the potential to be great. We are all big girls and boys and can go where we want when we want.

I gave up on the so called free agent "frenzy", but just noticed the Canucks have signed Jason Garrison to 6 years at 4.6 per.We lost Salo to Tampa tho. 2 years at 3.75 per. I like Salo , but that's insane.

Salo's good for the two or three games a year that he's healthy.

I don't blame Schultz. The Ducks organization is a goddamned circus right now. Bobby Ryan apparently wants out, too.

Overall I'm very happy with Toronto's July 1st.. Not overpaying marginal 3rd and 4th liners (looking at you, Montreal). I'm very happy with the Jay McClement signing, he's one of the best bottom six defensive forwards in the league, and a great PKer, which anybody who has seen the Leafs in the past few years knows we really need. For cheaper than projected too!

Also I'm glad Gustavsson got his 2 year deal with Detroit, I feel like if there's any team that can make him into an NHL goaltender again, it's them. I probably won't feel the same way after the inevitable 56 save shutout at the Winter Classic though.

Happy with Prust and Armstrong. Especially Prust, that guy is a pitbull. Don't really know where Frankie Boo fits in as we have plenty of D already. Habs have a pretty tough bottom 6 with Moen, White, Prust, Armstrong and Nokelainen.

Brodeur stays where he should, and all is well with the world.

Good pick up with Prust, Habs fans. Overpaid like everyone else yesterday, but he's a solid guy and a great addition to any team.

Ironically enough I think the McClement signing was one of the only ones yesterday that wasn't overpaid. Very pleasant surprise looking at the rest of Burke's free agent frenzies.

Makes sense, he probably wanted to go somewhere where he pretty much could walk onto the top 4. With the defensive logjam on Vancouver, Toronto and New York, that wouldn't have been happening.

Makes sense Shultz signed with Edmonton...he gets to be with a bunch of young guys with a lot of potential upswing.

Don't forget the last team to have 3 first round draft picks ended up becoming the Stanley-Cup winning Colorado Avalanche...

Obviously Oilers have to find all the pieces especially in net like Roy was the missing links for the Nords/Avs; they're still a few years out from being legit contenders imo, but anyone who is denying the Oilers as a potential AAA team in the future is smokin' something hallucinogenic
