It's a crown with a function (wind turbines); crowns are far better than simple spires which are nothing more than a height cheat imo....unless they are integrated well into the overall design of the building like the Empire State Building or Two Prudential Plaza in Chicago.

IIRC, at least part, if not all of the funding for this tower came from the Chinese government's economic stimulus package. No idea about tenants, but I think at least part of it will be a hotel.

I am utterly amazed on how huge this new skyscraper is going to be, close to two already big monsters, World Financial Center and Jin Mao, presently and respectively 3rd and 1Oth tallest skyscraper in the world...

The core of this thing is quite interesting.

But Jin Mao still takes the cake. Beautiful building.

Wow, amazing. Just a month ago it seems this was a huge pit, now steel is rising above street level.

I'll be in Shanghai (at Fudan) from this Dec.-next Aug./Sept.
I really hope it progresses quickly during that time
I'd like to say I saw it in person! (although, I'm sure it will take at least 1.5 to complete?)

Last time i checked on this project, it was a deep hole in progress and now it's ready to take off. I guess the construction of this tower will be moving at the fast pace
