Will any of these towers have a hotel to make up for the loss of the Mariott?

Exclamation

There is a section of Tower 2 (Facing the Millennium Hotel and Century 21) which will apparently have 100 rooms (*or more). I don't know if Mariott will place its marker there or if someone will take its place.

Where did you hear this? As far as I know there is no hotel planned for the site, this is because several new hotels are planned, in the works, or completed in the area. 99 Church and 123 Washington street are just a couple.

The original plan was to have the replacement in Tower 2 but that was scrapped and the hotel idea put on hold for another location. Potentially they could place it in Tower 5, though that has never been discussed. My wish was that they would place the hotel above the PAC, but foundations for that are already underway, so its not likely. There has however been new hotel space built around the WTC perimeter, and still more is planned.

Why do those trenches seem so randomply placed, why did they dig down that much just in a few places?

They just need to cut out a rough outline of the foundations before they put them in place. The concrete they poor will be extremely precise.

Port provides update to WTC Committee

BY Aline Reynolds
October 6 - 12, 2010

Quote:
“Construction is now underway on all parts of the site – it’s [been] a heck of a challenge, but it’s never been at that point before, and that’s something to celebrate,” said Janno Lieber, president of Silverstein Properties. And though Silverstein and the Port have come a long way in achieving that goal, their jobs are not quite finished, he said.

“We don’t just have to fill the buildings as a leasing matter,” Lieber said. “We have to make sure we have the kind of tenants that are going to support [Downtown] culture.”

...The W.T.C. is “a very special place that we hope will be an urban model for the country and even for the world,” he said, “and we’ve gotten most of the way there.”

The foundations of Towers 2 and 3 have been excavated, with set completion dates of 2012 and 2014-15, respectively. Greenwich Street, meanwhile, is expected to be fully restored by 2014.

...Ward assured the committee of the strengthened relationship between the Port and Silverstein in light of the recent financial agreement: “In all aspects we have certainty, for the first time, and a level of progress and public accountability,” he said.

Ward said the Port is finalizing negotiations with Westfield Group, an Australian shopping mall operator, to create approximately 500,000 square feet in retail space in Towers 2, 3 and 4.

Im sure these cuts are every bit as precise, may not looke as good as after they pour concrete, but I think they need to be as exact as any other part.

that should more than make up for the Marriott.. plus they opened up at least one other hotel in the area since 2001

any recent progress made on securing financing for this tower?

Hopefully we would get some progress beyond the first few floors by sometime next year.

In the last article, completion dates 2014-15, did they mean the entire towers or just the podiums?

I would hope so, sure wouldn't take 4-5 years just to build a podium of several stories.
