Most people in Van / Vic never buy cars from anywhere else in Canada (even the interior of BC) Also, seldom is there enough salt on the roads / sidewalks to not wear dress shoes.

I like wearing dress shoes, i like wearing suits as well. I honestly do wish had a little more formal mind set when it comes to clothing. I love being in Japan, because the fashion there is either crazy off the wall, or nice and dressy. Only at home do you really wear casual in Japan (or if on a road trip, for some strange reason).

That being said, it is annoying that even when going hiking / doing something outdoors / exercise based, you still have to wait for girls to do their make up and dress pretty. When it comes to those situation, I 100% believe in dressing comfortable.

I've had several pairs of shoes get salt stains on them, even had a couple pairs get ruined. Anyway, this is a strange discussion and I think it has run it's course.

Those sketchy used car lots along the KGH used to be full of junk cars from Alberta, that's where it seemed a lot of those used lots got their stock, as for some reason cars are cheaper here. Probably becuase they're all beat to shit.

On the subject of cars, we used to laugh at the guys who'd come to the Okanagan from Alberta in the summer to sell drugs. They all drove a jacked up pickups with the "Alberta ugly package" (chrome push bumber, headache rack & running boards) and spent the summer douche'in around and hitting on the local girls 10 years younger than them.

Ahh fun times in the summer

Really? I've never actually heard of that one (although I suppose it makes sense, it's just the reverse of the western attitude).

In Manitoba we always were warned to be wary about buying a car from Alberta or BC, because at least for a time, they rarely had block heaters installed. My father (lived his entire life in MB/ON until that point) bought a car in Edmonton decades ago and was shocked to find no block heater. This may be more of a historical anecdote, however. All new cars I've looked at in Calgary come with them these days.

They give you the option when you buy one, but I would be surprised if the dealership actually had many cars without block heaters. One thing about cars from Alberta (and specifically Calgary) is that we use a lot of gravel on the roads here, so if you buy an Alberta car to drive in Ontario or Quebec, I would recommend getting it repainted because all the salt will rust out all the rock chips.

This is perhaps where I'm truly an oddity. I sometimes LOVE dressing up - but I would hate to be in a society where it's expected or the norm. I love doing it not out of some sense of being "better" dressed, or that it's "proper", or whatever - I love it because of my inner peacock, and the extra attention it brings. If everyone was in a suit, I'd just be another anonymous cog.

Sometimes I think they modeled Barney Stinson after me. "Suiting up" is a term I used 20 years ago, to mean showing off. Kinda loses the effect when everyone does it.

I can remember seeing quite a few classified ads for Alberta-driven used cars.

I had no idea where to put these poll results so here it is:

Overall satisfaction for the quality of services in canadian cities. According to this poll, home seems indeed to be better

He should have accessorized a bit more -- a sun hat and giant glasses would have completed the grandma tourist look.

Those flip flops should only be worn at the beach. Or a gladiatorial audience.

They're leather, so it's different!

OK, just wondering...

There is lots of criticism and sarcasm towards what some people here think looks good, or at least *OK*, but at the other extreme does anybody here think that a woman in mommy jeans, a sweatshirt with wolves, white socks and white sneakers looks good? (I have known guys who fancied this look BTW - so don't laugh.)

So please, speak up!

Mom jeans go with cat sweatershirts, not wolf sweatshirts.
