Honestly, if you are dressed in clean clothes and have groomed yourself, I will find nothing wrong with you. I don't find granny jeans and a wolf sweater appealing, but I don't find it offensive either. I may be an anomaly though; I'm not offended by hairy old men in speedos any more than I am offended by hairy old men in board shorts (which is to say, I'm not offended at all by either).

You haven't been to Northern Ontario until you've been to one of our many little shops that sell a wide variety of things covered in wolf montages with the name of the community printed on it.

Same with the Caribbo area of BC, along with all their cowboy gear.

I have never been a fan of the wolf / kitten sweatshirts.

I think that whole industry is primarily fuelled by hipsters who think they're being ironic.

Quite the contrary: You compared us to Montreal and for that we are honoured!

Now, which foodstuff is least worthy to be proud of? La poutine, or the Persian?

Agreed. I'm astounded at the number of people in rather nice clothing, who don't understand how to keep B.O. away. Shower, people! And try some anti-perspirant from time to time!

Oh, and if you're not actually growing a beard - freaking shave. Nothing looks stupider together than a $300 pair of shoes and the "meh, I couldn't bother to shave today" look.

I completely disagree, daily shaving is for suckers...

So are the girls. But these days they're also fond of the Justin Bieber sheepdog "hair in my eyes" look, so I'm never sure just how much I should go down the path to impress.

All this talk about people wearing hikers around the city being a negative thing is ridiculous. People invest a lot of money into being outdoorsy.......its not like they always look like that. When people go and do something semi formal or formal, they dress it up. You would have to be a total knob not to be stylish.............and I still wouldnt care. As cities grow, so does the fashion sense (and so does the number of stores to see/buy it in).

So great to see our country evolve. Go visit a Canadian city this summer and dont be a complainer!

Enjoy things for what they are.

But you used to come from Montreal, which means you should have a well-established sense of urban-identity and that you should know better than to wear shorts, but also know better than to hork and spit everywhere.

I'm trying to figure this all out, but this simply doesn't compute. Either MolsonExport should be a conforming horkier or an elitist non-horker, but the shorts throw a twist in the whole thing. It's like he's an elitist, non-conformist. But that would suggest he's a hipster, but he's not wearing skinny jeans and I detect a lack of irony on his part. *Gaaahhhh!!!!*

I really don't think I'm made for this.

People move around a lot more and information and goods are easier to share across great distances.

The cultural gap between larger and smaller cities has already shrunk a bit and I think that trend will continue.

Just checking in on this thread, and couldn't help noticing this. So, just to clarify: hiking shoes in a restaurant on Saturday night doesn't look stupid, but expensive shoes worn by someone with stubble does?

Or, more pointedly: observing the dorkiness of hiking shoes at a restaurant in Toronto or Montreal is the height of valley-girl superficiality, but opprobrium toward guys in expensive shoes who missed a date with the razor in Calgary isn't?

Just curious if you see the double standard, or if maybe everyone's taking the piss in this thread now. Apologies for sounding too serious if so.

I like to call it "the Stubbeard". Google says that word already exists so I can't copyright it.

I got new insoles today, for my steeltoe workboots which I wear to Moxies. I am now Jellin' like Magellin'.

There was a guy at my old work who had permanent designer stubble. I was never a need to shave every day kinda guy, but I always hated the concept of designer stubble on principle. But the guy looked so god-damn bangin' hot with it, I overlooked it.

So in other words, follow the rules, unless you can get away with breaking them.

I thought it was clear we were taking the piss when we arbitrarily moved the goalposts from "never ever wear them unless hiking" to "never wear them in a fancy restaurant on Saturday night in Toronto or Montreal".

I'm also thinking we really need to introduce tattoos and Ed Hardy t-shirts into the discussion, to really make this complete.

This was my single favourite TV ad line, until Egg Management Fee took over. Thanks for the nostalgia.

Figures that eggs of all things would have a management fee.

My bank account is 47% less expensive than cashing my cheque at a payday loan store and keeping the cash in a box.
