If you think so, probably. I just know it was called Cabot whatever.

This seems to be true today but interestingly enough it wasn't true in the early 20th century, even though there was more wealth concentrated in that area back then than there is now, relatively speaking. The port and railcut redevelopment of the 1910's required the expropriation of a lot of estate lands, the demolition of some mansions, and lots of blasting. Back then there was a sense that the trade-off was important for the growth and development of the region.

It really is too bad the Northwest Arm bridge didn't happen back then because it wouldn't have been as difficult politically. That bridge has got to be one of the more obvious pieces of missing infrastructure in a Canadian city.

I guess it would have been a shame to demolished Windsor Station though. So it doesn't hurt as much when all considered.

Shame.

Can't believe i'm saying this, but I would have accepted the demolition of the 1889 station to have this one. The pre-war skyscrapers that we got were nice and imposing, but this would have put us on a Chicago level. Would also have worked great with a Windsor Hotel tower addition, which was also killed by the depression. Put that with the Sun Life and the Cathedral and it would have been mental.
