[Saint John] Retail Thread

Looks like RR Drummer was correct. The East Walmart will simply be a retro-fit of the current store. I came across this PDF yesterday, and thought I would share it with you.

I had heard similar word about Wal-Mart in the past few days re: renovating their current location into a Supercentre.

I wonder why that map pdf doesn't show East Side Mario's. Has it succumbed to the swampy conditions?

Yeah, that is odd. Even in the old map they didn't make any mention of it. I guess they are only concerned about their own property. Or maybe the swamp finally got the best of it. Haha

I also love how out of scale the site is with the surrounding contextual road map... Where did Parkway Mall and Morland Park go?

I don't blame them for forgetting about Parkway Mall.

It appears Fruits and Passion in McAllister has closed up shop.

Clearing way for a Bath & Body Works? Yes please.

Is BBW still slated to open in April? I've noticed a few job postings for them lately...

Saint John has an Old Navy and Freddy is still waiting ? TANJ!

Wish our Smart Centre would get off the ground more. It's got lots of pads available but no one seems to want to continue it since Kent, Crappy Tire and WalMart built

Saint John has had an Old Navy for almost 10 years.

LOL - I was just about to say the same thing! I believe the Moncton, and Saint John one's opened within a month of each other.

Shows how often I get down there. But I've got a friend/coworker in SJ for cancer treatment so I may be down a few more times. (If only it was a 4 lane highway thru and thru, then it'd be a quick trip down.... )

And regardless, it still sucks Freddy doesn't have it. Then again Gap Outlet just opened.

A few retail/consumer spending tidbits that I thought were interesting.

Even though it opened in November, I was really surprised to walk past Saint John's new Gap Factory Store in East Point.

If Sears were to close, that would leave SJ without a traditional department store. Wow. That'd be quite the ego hit if we lost ours while Fredericton and Moncton kept theirs.

Maybe they'll relocate Uptown, lol.

I can't imagine SJ losing Sears. I think this rumour is highly unlikely.

Also, the Sears space is way too large for H&M.

Hardly. In fact, it'd probably be an ego BOOST. "Haha, we got rid of our useless and incompetent failing department store before you did!!"

It appears that Princess Auto will be opening a store at East Point.
Just another example of Northrop stealing another store away from Saint John West!

How dare they be a more attractive place to set up business! Humbug!

The Princess Auto would've been West if the landowner had been prepared to offer them a fair price for the property, if I'm not mistaken.

East / West - its not that big of a deal to drive! People complain too much. I live in French Village and we go to the Irving Nature Park twice a week (when the weather's nice)
