Haven't been there lately, but DeRosa's at Sanford and Wilson has awesome meatball, veal, sausage and eggplant sandwiches.

Incognito on John S does a great authentic steak frites dinner as well.

Wow, thanks for all the sandwich recommendations! They will give me a reason to explore some neighbourhoods I haven't seen as well.

Salute!

Note before you go that they use hanger steak, which is not to everyone's taste (I like it, obviously).

Le Select is one of my favourites in TO (though service is inconsistent in my experience).

That's good news. It isn't steak frites if it isn't hanger steak (unless it's horse, of course).

*drooooool* best sandwiches in the city!! I used to eat there at least once a week when I was in High School (Cathedral). They have really awesome slab pizza, too!

Duartes (Barton just W/ Wentworth) has good sandwiches for cheap.

Bonanza Bakery on Murray bet Mary & Catherine has a 'Mystery Meat Sandwich' for like $2 and it's good too. This bakery is in a house on a residental street... so it's kind of hard to notice. But I always get one after rollerblading thru the Bayfront.

if anyone wants to experience a true Hamilton landmark, hit the Franks Sicilia Bakery at Barton and Sherman. The Italian Birthday Cake is all our family ever gets....the cappuccino and espresso are the real deal and the pastries are incredible. I'll be a sad man if this place ever closes.

I would pass on this place. I went a couple of years ago and was really disappointed. The food was over priced and not very good, IMO.

Trust me man, I've seen you in person. If I were a stalker, I would rather go for a guy from the Wesley centre over you.

Frank's Sicilian is home to the best cannolli in Hamilton.

I ate at MacGill's once last summer and was not very impressed either. While their service was incredibly good, the menu had high price points for mediocre meals. It was a disappointing meal and we haven't been back.

Husband and I just walked down and bought 8 pastries at Frank's on Saturday. Place was packed. Their canolis truly are the best, and I love seeing a thriving shop at Barton/Sherman. All 8 are gone, by the way. And after that, I'm TOTALLY starting my diet!

Pane del Sol was mentioned by someone else as good sandwiches, and I have to second it! My husband used to work in the offices at LIUNA Station and their breaded veal sandwich is to die for.

I'm totally going to check out Papagayo - looking for good authentic Mexican food lately.
