It's a student residence not a condo building. All rental units.

It looked like the outside elevator came down today. That's all I've noticed

The section where the elevator was has been almost completely clad with windows. Kind of neat seeing it almost fully enclosed.

Drove past it last night. Couldn’t get a long look but by the placement of the scaffolding it looks like the cornice is being installed.

Couldn't really tell but I think this is getting a stone cornice using the same new stone on the facade.

YES! MORE STONE!

Has the stone cornice been completed on the top of the entrance yet?

I see they drilled holes in the front for lights - that should be interesting

I went by here yesterday and you can't even see the area above the scaffolding - it's all enclosed in - so I am really excited to see the cornice when it's done! It's been the one thing I have been the most excited to see from this whole project!

I am a bit disappointed with the ground level though - the elevation plans made it look like there were fancy pillars at the bottom but it just appears to be curtain wall over the concrete square beams.. but maybe that will change..

Some floor plans of the 2nd and 3rd floor.. don't remember it angling like that though inside..

No floor plans for the 1st floor as of yet though.

1 Bedroom - $1125 /mo
1 Bathroom - 355 sq.ft Floorplans

1 Bedroom - Accessible $1175 - $1225 /mo
1 Bathroom - 452 - 462 sq.ft Floorplans

1 Bed in Shared 2 Bdrm - Accessible Unit ($/bed) - $781 - $1033 /mo
1 Bathroom - 505 - 796 sq.ft Floorplans

1 Bed in Shared 2 Bdrm - Unit ($/bed) - $698 - $1074 /mo
1 Bathroom - 462 - 548 sq.ft Floorplans

They are aiming for summer 2018 to open it seems..

I also want to know how the cornice is going to be secured to the building - there doesn't appear to be any metal to hook it into..

Other than new windows, is that it for the facade? No last wash?

Never mind, I noticed the bottom still needs work.

Looks fabulous. Now just imagine another ten to twenty storeys--you'd barely notice it's so unobtrusive.

Another ten storeys would've been no trouble. Kind of recalls 461 Dean Street in Brooklyn.

And the windows and ground floor aren't even complete yet.

Looking good indeed.

And for those parts of town sensitive to height, a useful lesson if it fits the site.

agreed..this type of design could be way taller and have zero 'negative' impact to James St. Design matters, streetscape matters, materials matter...height, not so much when the rest is done right.

*has a heart attack*

IT'S SO.. BEAUTIFUL!!

They actually opted for a design similar (if not identical) to the original! I am so happy!

A good cornice can make ALL the difference

Well done guys, well done

The postcard makes me question whether the cornice on the building BESIDE it is original though - since the postcard shows it as being level with the William thomas cornice, and the one we see now is clearly lower..

Wait.. *compares horizontal bar details between buildings and sees that they don't line up* - hmm it almost seems like the William Thomas facade was pushed up a foot or two, as it no longer lines up with the level of the building beside it.. perhaps it was done so for modern standards of floor heights..

Yeah upon further inspection the entire facade has been moved up one "block" height to no longer be uniform to the building beside that.. hmm.. how did I not notice that before.. I am guessing the steel lintel across the bottom may have accounted for the pushed up height as putting the blocks on the way they originally were may no longer be an acceptable way of mounting them...

Also just noticed that big giant white slab on the scaffolding.. is that stone or just like.. white board? It looks almost big enough to go in the area underneath the facade..

Also the stones at the top right hand side in that column all appear to either be new or to have been blasted, and it looks like some residue might be on the dark brick beside them,, if this is the treatment the rest of the building is going to get then I approve
