And on that note:

Museum designs 'versions of a box'
Architecture critic pans museum design timeline

Elise Stolte
Edmonton Journal

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

A new museum could bring more life downtown than a hockey arena, says an architecture critic who fears the new design - to be announced Wednesday - may fall flat.

"I had my druthers, I would pull the plug and do it right," said Trevor Boddy.

"Given the time and money allocated, you were only going to get versions of a box," said Paul Verhesen, head of Clark Builders and the Edmonton Construction Association...

I would say Ledcor is the best, IMO. There are three elevations that are adjacent to the public realm, and Ledcor is the only one that has a presentation of each face to the public realm. Its not great, but I think it is clearly better than the others. It is underwhelming, and akin to a 1960 style high school.
The only way to put it, is if Ledcor is the choice - I will be less disappointed if they pic any of the other ones. Frankly 3PM is nothing to get excited about.

Not sure if this link has been posted, but it has bigger versions of the renderings.

When i first saw them i thought pcl was the most interesting. But that North wall is brutal, and i agree that its interior is very much like a department store. I dont really think escalators belong in a museum. there should be a flow from one room to the next like the tyrell museum (just ramps, a couple staircases and an elevator).

So, in the end i'm gonna say ellis don. But only because i hate how ledcor's north side has that half assed attempt to mimic vancouvers public library...

Ledcor takes it.

Was hoping for Don-Ellis. That third picture of Ledcor makes it look like the damn Education building at the UofA, less the mural.

But I wonder if the fact that Dialog (former Coho Evamy) was involved in the prior RAM reno plans played a role in the choice?

give it a break... they probably had obligations to notify those who weren't the winners prior to announcing things publicly if simply for common courtesy. that would be impossible to do without also notifying the winner even if only be default unless you think it should be like some televised award show where they're all in the audience and only one gets called up.

All designs are shit. I could not pick one. Just emailed his constituency office and phoned his place of employment!! They better rearrange the Lego set with this one. Looks like an office I would go to get my teeth cleaned...horrible.
