I've been wondering if the National Music Centre, in and of itself, could justify a short trip out to Calgary?

UBC Student Centre looks nice, as does the aquatic centre. UBC has really upped their architectural game in the last decade after a lot of pretty weak entries.

The National Music Centre in Calgary wasn't my favourite building... until I went inside. Simply Fantastic. The content of the museum/centre is kinda ho hum but the architecture is worth the trip without question.

Canada 150: 30 Canadian Architecture Firms Breaking New Ground

Canada has its share of iconic buildings and beautiful parks that give every city, neighbourhood and outpost their greatness. So who is shaping the next generation of iconic structures? Here are 30 Canadian architecture firms we’ve got our eye on.

In celebration of Canada Day, we went searching for 30 architecture and landscape architecture firms that express the power and vision of the nation. The last of our three-part series (see our lists of the best and brightest interior designers and product designers), these firms represent the future of Canada.

Some of our choices are studios that are fresh out of school and have yet to complete an entire building; others have won international competitions that will see their work realized on the other side of the world. At every scale they share a drive (some might call it an obsession) for pushing architecture to the limits in terms of technology, innovation and beauty.

^Huh - that semi-detached house on the upper left of the collage there is literally around the corner from me. Been watching them go up for the past year and a bit - cool to know who did it!

This thread, and the piece above, are nice reminders that it's not all about highrise human warehouse projects. At least upon occasion ....

Yeah, but unfortunately I suspect this thread is not very popular. It's very rarely feed, even though there are tons of smaller projects that deserve attention. Then again, I understand this is mainly a skyscraper forum.

Give it a year or so and there will be the new central library across the street. Two architectural beauties to check out!

Edit: While you're in the East village I'd recommend visiting the River walk and St. Patrick's island. Go have a coffee at Phil & Sebastian's in the old Simmons mattress warehouse. Also don't forget to visit the Peace bridge on the west end of DT.

That stuff out of UBC is stunning. That campus is just dripping in beauty. Even in the 90s when much of Canada was getting drab beige crap, they were getting showstoppers like Koerner Library. I envy students who get to study in such a gorgeous environment.

Awesome stuff! Just got back from Chicago which has a lot of smaller projects under construction but I'm struck at how much higher quality the new stuff in Montreal and Toronto is.

The hotel looks great, I'll use it next visit. I'm not sure how I feel about that wall of tiny windows though. It's awesome but is it too much? Is there a good picture of it in it's surroundings to show it's scale?

It's expensive, starting at 300$ a night to 905$.

Of course, you can use the bar and the restaurant and visit the lobby and most public spaces from the mansion without having a room there. It's right next door the the future Four Seasons and one block away from the Ritz Carlton.

That Mount Stephen hotel looks amazing! The shape of the new addition reminds me of that other windowless looking modern hotel that I've seen posted here before but much better.

Same building. The windowless backside is on a back alley and it will be eventually hidden by another building.
