I'd prefer to see multi-unit housing built over commercial storefronts on main thoroughfares, that's my personal opinion. There's an incredible amount of this city that could be done in that style without even beginning to touch single family homes in the basin. I also don't believe that it has to be all or nothing -- there are plenty of neighborhoods where large apartment buildings make sense, and there are plenty where they don't.

Anyway, this thread is about development, I'll bow out of any future argument on this issue.
I wasn't advocating large ones in current single family areas. I was advocating small ones, taking up only one normal 6000 sf lot and having 4 apartments or condos. Maybe more if close to transit. I personally have an idea for 4 unit buildings I'd like to try out in Burbank's R1 neighborhoods. If only I could use the not in great shape house next door.

What's under construction at Slauson and Bristol in Culver City? The tower crane appears to be in the 150' range, though maybe that's just to avoid the adjacent midrise.

Any approximate start date for their other nearby Wilshire tower you presumably aren't allowed to publish?

Former site of the Art Leboe Studios, this is an improvement to the earlier rendering I had seen. However, very aggressive homeless individuals regularly camp out at that corner, being right across the street from the Library. It will be interesting how management deals with the situation, because they are not going away.

The only way we'll ever see affordable market rate housing again is if we allow SFR's to be converted to apartment buildings in masse like we did in in the post-war decades.

Playa Vista is hopeless. Nothing worthwhile being built there. Los Angeles f'ed it up big time.

Google will be building out their huge campus in the very large parcel they bought out. I would say that will be worthwhile.

It's not that it isn't worthwhile, but that it lacks urbanity.

I don't want to repeat this discussion though. Im sure you guys are tired of it.

Again Playa Vista has pros and cons but the real sad thing about it is how it's become sort of an exclusive community of the rich.
