Bowen Island Part 2

theboysofsummer

Horseshoe Bay is the western end of the continental Trans Canada Highway. The ferry is $36.90 for a car with a driver. It is cheaper to buy a BC Ferries card.

Cypress Mountain, one of the venues for the 2010 winter Olympics, is all lit up on top for night skiing.

A beautiful b&b down the street from my place, The Lodge at the Old Dorm.

This mute swan attacked me! That beak was at perfect pecking level if you know what I mean. I was doing Irish Riverdancing for the first time in my life trying to save the boys from a painful encounter.
I saw the swan the night it was killed in February. The local vet said there were canine teeth marks on the swan's neck. He was found washed up on the beach.
There is a beast roaming the forests of Bowen. They think it is an abandoned hybrid wolf-dog doing what it can to survive by eating chickens, cats, dogs, and even mauled deer have been found. One man discovered the "beast' eating the belly of his sheltie and was too late to save it.

Curried chicken wrap from the Snug Coffee Shop in Snug Cove. They have very good Bowen roasted coffee and friendly service.

Meet Felix. He is a 10 year old home invader who has bullied his way into my home and won't leave me alone.
I found out who his human was and we have had quite the email correspondence and have met as we tried to get Felix to go home.
He is coming to live in Calgary with me with his human's blessing.

Happy spring! I had pansies blooming all winter in this window box sheltered on the south side of the house. The night after I took this picture, a deer hopped the fence and ate all the pansies.

Bowen is being explored as possibly becoming Canada's newest National Park. Whether it becomes a park or not, it shows that it is regarded as a special place worth preserving.
I'm leaving Bowen for Calgary Alberta, but I'll be back here in July! Thanks for having a look at the photos.

these are amazing pictures! i have looked at them all at least ten times. the photos of the foliage in those high trees are my favorites. you could spend centuries studying all of the rings in those old trees, i think, not that you would ever want to cut them down.

(the cat looks a bit menacing. I prefer canaries myself.)

I hope that your trip to Calgary is/was a nice one and I will look forward to seeing all of your photos on skyscraperpage for years to come I hope...

Thanks Bedhead! It is a fabulous relaxing place!

Thanks Expat!

Thanks Thundertubs! It sure is a beautiful piece of planet earth.

Thanks TinnitusClock! The drive to Calgary was a white knuckle whiteout in the dark through the mountain parks, I couldn't see a thing past the front of the car. Rumble strips helped! The cats were good passengers.

Thanks Shadowmaster!

Thanks DLLB! Just what Calgary needs - another cat! I will get Felix licensed as I support licensing as a way to lower the numbers of feral cats in the city.

Thanks tdawg! Thanks for the condolences. Conall belonged to my friend who is still broken up about his sudden demise. He was so healthy and happy at our Christmas dinner and gone 4 days later with a broken back from undiagnosed bone cancer.

Thanks xzmattzx!
