fortaleza de san carlos de la cabana (aka la cabana) (b. 1763)
this is the fort in the background across the canal de entrada to havana bay
castillo de la real fuerza (b. 1558-77)
fka the nearby fuerza vieja (b. early 1500s, damaged 1555, demo 1582)
castillo de los tres reyes magos del morro (aka el morro) (b. 1589)
cristo de la habana (b. 1958) - located in suburban casablanca across the bay from old havana. interesting that on 1/8/59, the very day castro entered havana during the revolution, the statue was hit by lightening & it’s head exploded. it was quickly repaired.
castillo de san salvador de la punta (b. 1559, 1590)
last and unfortunately least as its only a brief peek -- this is the main northside/oceanside of el malecon
*** i hope you enjoyed the malecon, one of the great strolling promenades of the world -- stay tuned much more havana to come! ***
It's has not changed in many decades, and I don't see it changing in the near future. It's like my favorite pair of old comfortable worn sneakers my mom tried to get rid of or replace.......Timeless.......If there was a drastic change it would lose it's allure. Granted it does need a facelift/cleaning but not replaced or changed and the cars are also part of the picture.
