With its galleries, boutiques and design houses, Winnipeg’s Exchange District has always been a hub for urban hipness.
But given the recent influx of seven new restaurants, cafés and lounges, the neighbourhood is also cementing its rep as a go-to food destination in the city.
Three new food and drink establishments—District Stop, a club, District Beer Market and a sandwich café, King & Bannatyne—are expected to open in the coming weeks.
“It’s great for us and it attracts people to the area,” said Stephanie Scherbain, communications coordinator at the Exchange District BIZ.
The spike in food vendors gives visitors more reason to explore the historic neighbourhood and then stay longer for food, she added.
“It’s the food and hospitality and entertainment district of the city,” said Wana Etuk, owner of District Stop, the DJ and live-music venue taking over Alive, a club in the area.
