Those balconies are vomit-inducing, and the whole design just looks like two buildings smashed together

It looks like a much uglier Pentominium (the cancelled/on-hold project in Dubai), thank God the current design looks lightyears better than that, although I'm still annoyed that they don't just add on another 50 feet or so...

Just remove the balconies and you have a good design. That side perspective, perfectly illustrates the vibe. Your like "oh.. not bad" but than you see those teeth as your work your way from the base (balconies), grinding away, like a bad case of bruxism, at your hopes and dreams. Just ruins the look of it.

Those balconies look out of place and just ugly ( I understand Goettsch put allot of time in their design so I won't go too hard )

I'm happy we have the Gordon + Smith design.

Let's hope they add another 50ft - 100ft to make it the tallest in the city.

That concept probably would have had the tallest residential balconies in the world, right?

Meh... This is less inspiring than Smith-Gill proposal and doesn't even reach the quality of One Chicago.

Looks like a mash up of One Bennett Park and Pentominium.

You people are hilarious. If this was a new LSE proposal you'd all be squirting your pants and there wouldn't be a negative thing said about it.

I like how in renderings they'll just entirely remove large tracts of buildings to make things show better. They make this almost look like they have direct water access. Or at least unfettered access with open plazas.

Equitable building, NBC Tower, Lowes, 465 Park, lol.

I like this Goettsch design! It feels a lot more Chicago and less like a generic Chinese city... definitely a more masculine design, with the interlocking volumes and chamfered corners. The balconies don't bother me a bit.

I don't see the Pentominium comparisons... definitely get a bit of a deco vibe though. Reminds me of Wells Fargo in Minneapolis, if Cesar Pelli had ditched the symmetry and made it 2x taller.

I like it better than the current design. Those balconies might be a little too prominent though. Too bad they didn't show a version where they nix them. This design has a lot of promise with some tweaks.

Agreed. This plan coheres with the Trib Tower in a much more thoughtful way. It makes me wonder if the chamfered corners were a nod to the Trib Tower design.

Don't really like the balconies, though. I still don't get the desire to have one 900 ft in the air.

I like the rhythm they give to the building and how they break down the massive scale.

What if they were cantilevered, enclosed sunrooms instead of balconies?

And not to be morbid, but if one of the justifications for gun control is suicide reduction one wonders about whether balcony control should be a thing.

You wonder. Along with the occasional jackass that wants to see what a beer can looks like floating down 900'. Have you ever been on a balcony that high? I was in an apartment with a balcony on the 44th floor and I got wheezy looking over the edge. I can't imagine the 90th floor or whatever. It's nuts and, quite frankly, uncalled for.

Agreed - can buy a unit in Vista instead for that thrill ride.
