Thanks for making another thread for this. Surprising that it took this long...

Any news for this?

Any news why the other one was removed?

Apparently, it was removed because users were questioning its viability and the issue of the bond that Fortress/MADY was selling as an investment in the building.

I have a feeling this project is on life support and fading fast.

No problem. It's available for posters regardless if it succeeds or fails in my mind.
We wouldn't have many threads in this local if we didn't add proposals, what would be the point?

Unfortunately, the delay in starting this thread goes to the heart of the matter. The lack of any substantial news, on the bright side, if it becomes available we can discuss it.

I feel the thread was not closed due to the information it provided which was useful and informative.

The feasibility and the economics of this project succeeding in Winnipeg or the questions that surround the developer were discussed and were very educational.

I feel the thread was removed due to problems with poster interaction.

How long until this is considered a stale proposal? Maybe there can be a little Skycity death watch countdown at the top of this thread?

Well I guess the Capital Pointe thread for Regina, started in Aug.2009..Still going..would be past the stale phase..

The countdown clock wasn't available in the menu when I started the thread..

The difference is, Capital Pointe has reached nearly 50% in sales and the site has already been cleared, with updates about the project and its status being released on a semi-monthly basis. Whereas SkyCity hasn't started sales, and hasn't released any updates in a while.

Yes, I realize the difference but was speaking to the fact of a 5+ year thread still active and this project only a year+ in from it's actual announcement.

The Sales centre has not been constructed in Winnipeg but was pushed from this summer to this fall. Questions remain on what will happen at this point.

Well, they cleared the site for SkyCity about 30 years ago so that part of the project is moving along ahead of schedule

See, a +. Saves on any demolition costs. You could even go as far as saying most of Downtown Winnipeg is cleared and ready for construction.

I thought the sales centre was under construction somewheres in the area. Or maybe they were just looking at a place or two.

Yeah, remember? They were just waiting on a permit!

I believe you may have been thinking about this location as an alternate.
Have no idea where it stands now.

Did they get the permit? Has there been any update in the last few months about the construction of the sales office? Also were they going to build a showroom like glasshouse did anywhere?

Really any update or activity would go a long way in showing they haven't given up... Is there literally ANY news about this?

Sadly, I haven't heard anything at all.

I really want this project to go through as much as you do, or the next person, but I feel this is going to be one of those "vaporware" type proposals where proposals like this are announced, and then never fully realized at all.

I personally am still waiting for development on the pads of Portage Place, or hell, the pad of a 2nd tower next to 360 Main over Winnipeg Square, along with a hotel in between.

For now, I'm hoping, but my confidence in SkyCity Centre is fading as the months go on.

^ Interesting. Although I do note that the former Aqua Books location across the street from there is already undergoing renovations... nice job with a new glass facade. Are you sure that isn't going to be the sales office?

As for that old legion, I wish it would find a new purpose other than just alternating between being a dance club and being vacant. The former Carleton Club nearby was in a similar state until the Hotel Fort Garry bought it to turn it into a yoga studio which seems to be doing well...

Aqua Books building is becoming a pub/resto called Pint Public House & Sports Bar. It's a small chain with locations in Edm, Cal, Van.

Thanks - I think that was mentioned here before, I totally forgot about that. It looks like it's coming along nicely.
