BILLINGS, MT | One Big Sky District | 324 FT | 17 & 14 Floors

Developer: MontDevCo LLC
Architect: CTA Architect
Type: Office, Hotel (160 keys), Residential (~160 units), Retail
Location: N 30th Street at First Avenue, Downtown
Construction Timeline: 2017 Start Date - 2019 Completion
Website: http://www.onebigskycenter.com

Proposed One Big Sky Center would change the face of downtown Billings

Quote:
The Billings skyline could be in for a major overhaul — the addition of the state's tallest building — if a $120 million downtown development comes to fruition.

One Big Sky Center, a multiuse development being proposed for downtown Billings, would include a 70,000-square-foot conference center, a 160-room hotel, downtown residences that cater to both seniors and millennials, plus the addition of major retail and office space downtown.

Plans unveiled Monday also call for a downtown walking mall flanked by two high-rise towers, one of which would be 324 feet tall, dwarfing Montana's current tallest building, the 272-foot-tall First Interstate tower. Supporters described the project, two years in the making, as a catalyst for new growth and development, and a shot in the arm for the city’s efforts to recruit conventions and conferences.

Pretty neat! I hope Billings goes the route Denver and Boise have.

Awesome. I've always called Billings "The Greatest Little City in the World". That of course is taking a page out of Reno's book as the "Biggest" Little City in the World". And yes I won't deny it, I'm prejudiced because I lived there once. Every time I go back, I've never found a reason not to like anything there.

Billings has a lot going for itself. Billings is the largest city b/t Calgary and Denver and b/t Boise and Fargo with a trade area of half a million people.

Sorry, I misread the quote up above, so I deleted it. Now I don't think, that Billings will ever reach the size of Denver, but you're right, it is and always has been of major importance simply because of its geographical position, with the area it is surrounded by, being almost right smack-dab-in-between the Twin Cities and Seattle, and has always competed in importance, to other major cities (relatively speaking) such as Bismarck, Fargo, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, as far as being a major commerce center and of other important features such as health care etc. It is almost on par with cities like Boise, Spokane, Regina, and Saskatoon. I was always intrigued by the major distances in between the towns up there. Big Sky Country.

BILLINGS | One Big Sky Center | 324 ft | 25 floors

I know there is a discussion on this in the Mountain West about this but I wanted to make a thread just for this project.

It would be fantastic to see this happen especially since it would be right between the First Interstate Building and the Crowne Plaza which are the two tallest buildings, so it would really complete the skyline

Fair enough. Bad choice of words on my part, I guess I should have said the building will really fill out the skyline

Unhappy OBSC Update

It look like the project is not going to be built...it has since evolved into One Big Sky District but I did see some high-rises in the plan so stay tuned......https://www.onebigskydistrict.com/

Exclamation BILLINGS | One Big Sky District - East and West Towers | 17 & 14 FLOORS

EAST TOWER: 17 Floors, Height -???
WEST TOWER: 14 Floors, Height - ???

These are two towers that are proposed for the new One Big Sky District (formally known as One Big Sky Center). The height is "up in the air" so hopefully it will grow to at least 330 FT tall or taller ...
