Beautiful, short documentary about 1920s Manhattan. Gorgeous footage. This was the Alberta for our boys during that era.

Even that famous photo of the men eating lunch on the skyscraper's beam has several Newfoundlanders.

A look at how NYC has improved its streets and made them less car-centric.

A lovely look at Chicago's equivalent of the demolition of our Central Slum in the 1950s.

Charlie Booker's 2014 Wipe. I've been waiting all year for this. It's always fantastic.

I miss when this forum was alive and exciting things were happening

When I'd check this forum like 10 times a day for new SignalHillHiker pictures and there would be pages upon pages of thoughtful passionate discussion... It was through this website that I learned to love my city and make my voice heard on issues I would have known nothing about otherwise.

When I first started visiting, we only had the main project thread and a few building specific threads in the atlantic section. Then we moved on up in the world and got our own section as the pace of development picked up and proposals upon proposals came forward. Our first highrise office buildings in decades were being constructed, Oodles and oodles of proposals from the complete redevelopment of that rotten section of Duckworth, to the two tiffany towers. It all seemed to be going up with no slowdown in sight until construction abruptly stopped along with the flow of proposals.

Imagine if everything that had been proposed in the past five years was built. It would be a completely different city. The Hilton, the beautiful Deacon Building, Star of the Sea, Marconi, MIX, Mirador, 123 Water Street, the Harbour Light project, the Marriott expansion, the rooftop Atlantic Place parkade hotel, Tiffany Towers. Three years ago when I thought of 2015, I imagined a city far different than what came to fruition. if 2012 me was given a glimpse into the future, he would be sorely disappointed.

But, through it all, the past few years were an exciting time where we bonded as a group became good friends, and collectively strived to make our voices heard over the overly vocal minority. I think it's a shame that i'm not on here posting every day as I used to. It's something that I miss!

Who knows.... Maybe one day the pace of development will pick up once more and we'll have something substantial to chat about. But, until then just wanted to thank all the regular forumers who made the past few years exciting for me before everything drifted off into oblivion!

Happy 2015

I'm confident we will see more development and exciting times in the St. John's forum in the future.... When that'll be is hard to say. Give that we're in a lull now things are very quiet. But there'll be more (and exciting) development to come; stay optimistic, my friend.

In an effort to get some discussion going, does anyone have any info or heard anything on any of said projects. Except Deacon, Mix and Mirador, I'm pretty sure those are all dead.

Hi. I have an unusual question that I'm finding a hard time finding someone who can answer. I'm doing some research on truck ownership in NL and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a car dealership in the St. John's area that is known as a place where people go to buy pick-ups. In particular, I'm interested in places that have been around a while, since the 1990s.
Thanks!

My guess for top four are:

1)Avalon Ford (Kenmount Road)
2)Terra Nova Motors (Kenmount Road) - Chevrolet Dealer
3)Dodge City (Topsail Road)
4)Toyota Plaza (Kenmount Road)

All have been around since the 90s and probably even longer. Terra Nova Motors moved in the early 2000s, they were located on Topsail Road for a very long time before that. Hope this helps.

Yes awesome news. I love that building. And losing the hall was a big heritage sacrifice so I'm pleased something is being done with the lot n
