Tornado Recovery: How Joplin Is Beating Tuscaloosa

http://online.wsj.com/article_email/...sj_share_email

Quote:
Last April 27, one of the worst tornadoes in American history tore through Tuscaloosa, Ala., killing 52 people and damaging or destroying 2,000 buildings. In six minutes, it put nearly one-tenth of the city's population into the unemployment line. A month later, Joplin, Mo., suffered an even more devastating blow. In a city with half the population of Tuscaloosa, a tornado killed 161 and damaged or destroyed more than 6,000 buildings.

More than 100,000 volunteers mobilized to help the stricken cities recover. A "can-do" spirit took hold, with churches, college fraternities and talk-radio stations leading the way. But a year after the tragedies, that spirit lives on far more in Joplin than in Tuscaloosa. Joplin is enjoying a renaissance while Tuscaloosa's recovery has stalled.
Rand-loving UA econ profs opine that government sucks. Shocking.

I couldn't agree more! In fact, I think the first protuberance of the nanny state we need to jettison are those government-funded NWS Doppler radar installations.

That way, the next time the sky gets dark, only those patriots that had the foresight to install private radar arrays in their backyards will deserve the 20 minute warning that their doom approaches! The rest of the socialist plebeians mollified by government hand-outs of "Tornado Warnings" should be left to their own devices.

Do you know what's even more disgusting? These welfare trolls - after not taking responsibility for their own fate by obstinately refusing to install their own Doppler radar arrays on their porches - will predictably demand "health care" to heal their wounds.

The nerve of these people. What's happened to our once-great country?
