I was wondering when they were going to start on re-cladding the base! I was beginning to worry that the glass facade on the base had just been value engineered out of this project. I'm glad they've finally started working on this. I love the new tower but it looks awkward as it is right now just plopped on top of the garage.

Holes drilled in the Walnut side of the garage for the glass facade. 7-11 at the base has been remolded and is reopened. The entire garage at the corner of 8th and Walnut has been demoed for the construction of the lobby of the building.

That's what I've been waiting for. I was worried that they were planning to skimp on the base by not bothering to take the glass cladding down to street level (it is all just a garage floor after all). I think once the base is complete that this will actually turn out quite nice. I like the contrasting materials a lot. It's not your typical glass box.

I like the way that this has turned out. The red panels actually complements the blue glass nicely. Hopefully they won't forget to re-clad the front of the parking garage.

My pleasure Insoluble! I'll be heading to the Grove in an hour or so to see how she's coming along. Let me know if you have any other construction update requests.

Great infill and a pretty decent design to boot. I like!

What was here before? A parking lot?

The parking garage that is the base.

This one looks particularly good in person now that the glass is covering the garage. I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't re-do the facade in the same glass for the retail portion of the ground floor, but I can totally understand that the 7-11 wouldn't want to have to shut down for a few months to make that happen. Oh well, just a minor nit-pick in an otherwise terrific building.
