The following is one day’s worth of photos during our way too short visit to München. There was so little time to do much exploring but we saw the old parts of downtown and participated in a night of drinking at Oktoberfest, which we weren’t expecting, so that was an amazing experience. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves cheap German beer and likes to watch locals and visitors make drunken fools of themselves while dressed in Lederhosen and Dirndl, singing along to cover bands playing Summer of ’69, Sweet Caroline and Ein Prosit with hundreds of other people in packed beer tents. The fact we were actually there for Oktoberfest came as a surprise to us, seeing as it was still the end of September. But if you’re going to be in Munich for such a short amount of time, Oktoberfest really is a fun time to be in the city.

Girona, Spain: A Day's Worth of Photos
Enjoy!
The first few photos were taken on the Autobahn, of course, coming into Munich from Memmingen, which was where we flew into from Girona:
I was not expecting so many people to be dressed in Lederhosen and Dirndl, carrying on about their daily business:
Our hotel, out of the city centre, had this raging river right outside of our window:
Great transit information like this came as no surprise to us:
On our way to the Oktoberfest festivities:
This was just one of maybe 15 or more massive beer tents:
It can be a little tough to get a seat when you arrive late like we did, so we just watched the revelry from up above in out first tent:
We managed to score some beers while standing (they usually won’t serve you unless you’re in the designated drinking area). It’s fascinating to watch the waitresses carry out 12 or more of these 1 litre steins to the tables:
In the last tent we went to, we managed to get a “seat” (everyone stands on the seats) and made some new friends. We went to an after party at a hotel lounge (things wrap promptly, and I mean PROMPTLY at 10:30 pm in the tents), got pretty drunk and managed to foolishly take a gypsy cab that ripped us off back to our hotel. But what an experience!
