Thanks for the thread! Fascinating stuff. Sadly, I have only heard about Yaounde because back in the day during my brief SSP diagram drawing spree, I drew this Maroon highrise in the center background in this photo. haha

Cool. Pretty typical, but I love Africa.

The great point about this, it has nothing to lose. It can only grow.

i swear, those grand, brutalist-sahelian monumental ministry buildings that you see much in that part of the world, are going to be the envy of architecture preservationists come 10-20 years. thanks for the whirlwind tour of a place we almost never see..well, that we never see!

Interesting pics of a place I have never seen before. I think I would rather live in Yaoundé than Norilsk.

Some advice to people interested in a trip to Cameroon. Obviously I would recommend this trip, but you must be prepared for such countries. There are serious diseases, corruption is an institution (the police racket tourists and local population at roadside checks, it costs money to leave the country at the airport... two examples among others), the country is absolutely not safe for foreigners outside the (rare) tourist resorts. In short, be prepared well in advance, arrange everything in advance with trustworthy people. Never forget that you are in a country under dictatorship, the rules of the game is one man who fixed them.
