A tower will get built there, the location is one of the best remaining 'view' lots and its proximity to the conference centre and CBD is excellent.

Will it be 280m, 240m, 200m, 160? Who knows... but a tower there will be!

Something that tall doesn't need to be in a "View" lot. I think the best thing about the proposal is the wrap around terrace on the podium for the view.

Then we have to ask does Edmonton have the demand to support an 80 storey tower which would ultimately house 1000+ units. I know Stantech and Marriott will be adding quite a bit of residential to the core. I'm not an Edmonton expert I'll leave that to the people who live there. You managed to get Stantech approved and under construction, this one is ultimately possible.

But that tall a tower on that precipice would be unreal.

"So, just got home from tonight's consultation. I think this thing is going through at the height they want.

It was a fairly friendly evening, a few people weren't so sure the tower was what they were wanting, one woman who lives north of the building is upset that her view south will be "compromised", questions regarding local sewer capacity (there's room), a Ryerson student thinks 367 Yonge should be saved as well for heritage reasons, and someone wants balconies on the building…

but there was zero yelling, no anger registered, nothing like what 8 Elm just across the street faced a few months ago, nothing at all of real consequence.

Canada's tallest building took a pretty big step forward tonight.

42." - from UT about the YSL (344m).

One taller tower was actually recommended over the earlier two tower connected by skybridge proposal. The reception at the public consultation shouldn't come at any surprise or is this a big step to seeing this built.

8 Elm is possibly the most ridiculous proposal ever and it was more than appropriate for the community to shit on it. Pretty much the one and only measure of any reason and disregarding the relationships of this measure to any other measures is the number of metres tall.

367 Yonge is nothing special and not worth protecting or forcing the developer to facade it. As for balconies, if the market wants them I'm sure they will be added otherwise that person really shouldn't give a damn unless they planned on buying a unit.

I'm open to anything that shortens the presence of a podium. Of course, that implies full retention than a facadism.

I see more and more proposals lately are switching from protruding balconies to inset ones, that keep the shape of the tower sleek and uncluttered... If any balconies are added, I would imagine they wouldn't protrude.

I doubt there is anything salvageable behind the stucco. I'm still not against a rebuild.

Ha, my friend use to live in that building. It was charming in a way, but a real shithole. Aside her room it was otherwise abandoned (aside from frequent squatters & crackheads who'd find their way in), and didn't really have working heat or water. But hey, where else could you still get an entire building to yourself in the heart of the city for $500/month in 2015?

I'm glad they aren't wasting any time...

Other Top 50 Proposals that have a good chance of starting this year:

304m 72fl The One
231m 69fl 23 Spadina 1
217m 65fl One Yonge 3
202m 59fl 23 Spadina 2

Also, towers now at OMB, that might begin construction soon after a decision is reached. Heights and floor numbers may not remain as-is...

198m 58fl Four Hundred 2
189m 58fl 19 Duncan

Finally! Finally a 200 meter plus start.

The first in almost 2 years.

Plus a fancy bus terminal. (Bonus)

I am pretty pumped to watch Bay Park Center be built. Two large scale office towers approved and tenanted out. We haven't had something on this scale in Toronto (commercial) since Scotia Plaza and TD Canada Trust Tower were both constructed in the late 80's.

The Bay Adelaide Project was decent to watch go up, but the design was boring. Bay Park Center really has me excited.
