Question Envac Automated Waste Collection System

I'm a little surprised in Vancouver with our cutting edge urban design and district planning ... such as SEFC, Fraserlands, etc we are not seeing anyone mention this as a possibility ....

Geoff Meggs maybe? (bad inside joke)

also with the Vancouver Alley Way revitalization talked about over the years .... I think this could be employed somehow as it would eliminate the large waste and recycle bins giving lots of room in the alleys ... think Davie Street for example. when the alley is 'greened' and made more pedestrian friendly the tubes for the Envac Automated Waste Collection System could be installed at the same time.

more on the system

Montreal Deployment >> http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/0...sucker_canada/

and a great BBC news story on the system with video showing how it works and a deployment in Wembley City >> http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...on/7772752.stm

thoughts anyone? anyone seen such a system 1st hand?

Interesting. I'm surprised the cost is only 8 milllion, if you have to dig new tunnels, set up collection points etc.
