Only downside.... you think Denver is expensive now, if Amazon comes through you can be assured it will only get worse

Here is where Denver can submit their proposal

I would imagine this is going to be an extremely tough competition among peer cities, and those metros larger than ours. However, Denver seems like a logical top 3-5 candidate. It's already attracting an expanding tech base. The weather is amazing. We have outdoors activities on a level similar to the pacific northwest. If Denver were to land this though, it would bring our city to a whole new level.

As a Seattleite, Denver strikes me as a solid candidate, and Elitch's would be a solid site.

Their current HQ is (was) also analogous to some of the quieter areas on the northeast end of Downtown Denver.

I don't think Amazon sees Colorado in that regard. They barely have a presence here. They're JUST starting to staff-up an office in Boulder. It'd be great, but I don't think we'll be even top-10 on their list. They'll end up somewhere on the east coast I think.

Not sure if there "existing" presence is a huge factor here. Plus, weren't there rumblings months ago of them looking for office space in downtown Denver? I see no reason why Denver wouldn't be in their top 5. Good location, good weather, very educated work base, relatively cheap compared to your coastal cities. We have a international airport with plenty of room for expansion.

Amazon likely started this process long ago.

I'd prefer it if they located in Arapahoe Square. That area needs some love and some critical mass of professionals to offset the aggressively homeless hordes. If they go with the Tech Center or some shitty suburban office park, I'd rather they just locate in another city.

^ This would be yuge for Denver, I think up near the Denver Coliesum wuld be a good location since theres a lot of land that has surface parking that made into an urban community plus this would be on the north metro N line and right near the A line to the airport.

Btw I wonder if Sacramento will bid for it too as its now courting Ford and GM to build electric car/light truck plants here.

My first thought was Dallas, Atlanta or Charlotte. Logistically from an air freight POV Memphis would work, could be a sleeper pick.

This if for a second HQ, not for air freight distribution. Totally differently animal. Amazon is already building out its distribution network.

Nice! I got to think that Amazon has already been having conversations for months with "preferred" candidates. Awesome that Colorado is out in front of this today so quickly... is that coincidence? Or have things been going on behind scenes?

I think this process has been quietly going on for some time. I've read the RFP and it looks like it was almost written with Denver in mind. it is common knowledge that Amazon was looking for 150,000 sf of downtown office space. Perhaps their scope changed and this RFP is the result.

That's what I wonder also. I'm sure Amazon probably has a few top picks already. Let's just hope Denver is one of them. That site would be the perfect spot. Really can't get any better then that.. It would transform the whole area.

Got to wonder whether the whole Kroenke Elitche's acquisition was a coincidence.. You now have a huge parcel of land in a central downtown area that ticks all the boxes. Also, SINGLE LAND OWNER is big deal. The process to assemble a large piece of land from multiple owners could be a nightmare for most cities.
