Robson Street is great for the energy it has and for the people that it attracts, but the stores are boring and the restaurants are crap. Where is there a good place to eat on Robson? I live in the West End and always head to Davie or Denman if I want good food.

OK, there is Hon's -- but that's it!

I love Gyoza King on Robsons. Guu is good too Also a few stores west of Gyoza King is probably one of the best Korean restaurants i have ever been to, the name escapes me right now. The "all you can eat chocolate fondu" is always fun too. there are more but i am terrible with names. Maybe you just don't like Asian cuisine, hence not liking robson street food. It really is the best spot for Japanese culture in metro Van (along with Kobe steak house near Alberni)

Capstone tea is where you can find the all you can eat chocolate fondue, along with other desserts and bubble tea.

^Interesting, never heard of it. Seems strange that their only two locations are Robson Street and Prince George of all places. And it closes midnight or 1am, perfect for satisfying those late-night fondue cravings.

What I'd really like to find though is a place that does meat fondue. I remember going to a place in Radium Hotsprings once when I was little and having fondue with such things as rabbit and elk meat (followed by chocolate fondue for desert of course). It was tasty.

You have to like Asian food...

My list: Tropika - a real gem of a place in upper robson, Guu (orginal) off robson on thurlow. Guu with Garlic on robson by capers. My fave korean - Jang mo Jib (by the pinkberry clone).

Plus many others that you can try, eg. hapa izakaya, gyoza king ++ other korean, etc...

My favorites on (or just off) Robson St!

Mondo Gelato
Cin Cin (expensive, and just OK)
Zeferelli's (great pasta)
Shabusen (my favorite sushi... good as long as you don't order "All you can eat", which gives you low quality stuff)
Japa-Dog (BEST. HOT DOG. EVER)
India Gate (the best Indian food I've had)
Amore's (best cheap pizza around)
The Italian Kitchen (their truffle cream sauce is a guilty pleasure)
Kobe Japanese Steak House (ok for a night out)
Kamei Royale (really good food, pretty authentic Japanese experience)
Ezogiku Noodle Cafe (good ramen, for Vancouver anyways)

One place whose name I don't know but is open till about 2AM and serves really good Fondu
edit: Oh, someone else knows it's Capstone I should read first.

And then we have the restaurant in the Fairmont, and Gotham Steakhouse, not really "on Robson" but close enough.

Robson Eateries: Yay or Nay?

Here we can continue the debate about whether or not Robson has good places to eat.

I definitely fall more into the category that Robson eateries are sub-par compared to other neighborhoods in the city, especially for the price.

I had a conversation with a friend about this same topic while walking down Robson about a week ago.

I can name almost a half-dozen places on Denman that are just basic good places to go - not high-end, just decent meals at a good price. Same goes for Davie (though it's a mixed bag there, there are a few really excellent places) or in Yaletown (which tends to be more expensive overall but excellent. Even the cheaper eats in Yaletown - and there are some - tend to be quite good).

On Robson, any place I can come up with where I might eat is really only acceptable, nothing I'd seek out with other options available. I've had some meals that were really not very good at all and later thought for the same price I could have gone to Yaletown and had a very good meal.

My favorite neighborhood for eats per block ration ; ) is probably Kits, though South Granville isn't bad either.

I'd rather go to Commercial Drive or Mt Pleasant (which I'm still learning about) than Robson if the reason I was going was to find a place for a meal.

It's probably true MOST of the eateries on Robson are sub-par. But there are some gems.

And none of them are fast food, hole in the wall type places.

I don't know why we really care, though I'm just happy there are places to eat Downtown in this city...

Gyoza King is my favorite place in Van for eating, i love it, it has the true Japanese hole in the wall atmosphere, not to mention everyone that works there is Japanese too. So Robson is yay for me just for that, and the good korean restaurant down the street from Gyoza King, and the small Japanese style crepe booth, and the fondue. As said before, if you love asian food, you love Robson, if not, don't go there.

1. Benke Ramen.
2. The crepes at Konbinya.
3. Spice Alley.
4. Ezogiku Noodle Cafe.

But, but, but. I miss chicken wings at Hooters.

I just wish that the Izakayas were cheap like they are in Japan. I haven't been to Japan yet but this is what I've heard from Japanese friends.

There are different segments of Robson - the commercial retail area near Burrard, the neighbourhood area closer to Denman and the emerging neighbourhood area to the east closer to the library.
Each area is a bit different.
