SAN DIEGO | Vantage Point | Height ? | 40 FLOORS

Vantage Point is one of the more sizable condo towers under construction in San Diego. It's on the block bounded by Ninth and Tenth avenues and A and B streets near the terminus of the 163 Freeway. The 40-story building will have 679 condominiums and was dubbed the largest residential tower in California upon approval.

This is where Vantage Point will be...

I'd have to say that this building is the poster-child of poor construction management. It has taken this group two years to finish the parking garage. Deep or not, that's just sad.

I just feel bad for the people waiting to get into this building. 679 units means a hell of a lot of people are waiting!!!

Anyone have a current picture of the site???

no...but i can describe it...one floor above ground, all wooden structure right now (a few steel beams...but they are just waiting around...) and a crane that basically just moves the port-a-potty around (trust me...ive seen it...and thats literally all it did)

VP will rise beyond the buildings on 11th and will rise as high as those behind.

this is the best picture i could find showing its location (relative)....but yes, that is where its going. You can see Symphony in the background

The block bounded by Eighth and Ninth avenues, and A and B streets

Gray Development is proposing a 42-story mixed-use project with 903 residential units (67 price-restricted) and approximately 47,800 square feet of commercial space on the block bounded by Eighth and Ninth avenues, and A and B streets. No construction schedule has been set.

I have purchased a unit at Vantage Pointe and first off, it's spelled incorrectly in this thread, as it's "Pointe" rather than "Point". The developer is Calgary-based "Pointe of View Developments" and many of their projects are (Fill in the blank) Pointe.

I placed my deposit in early 2004 and the project was originally scheduled for completion in early 2006. Now, we're looking at late 2008, if we're lucky. The developer is known for building "plain vanilla" developments, so many of us have our fingers crossed as the builder has a reputation for being "frugal" (I'm being nice) based on what I've been told.

In terms of the elevation, it wont be as tall as Symphony Tower, which is a 500 footer. Vantage Pointe will be more like 420'-430'. However, it is the largest (not the tallest though) residential tower currently under construction.

Mondrian, if built, will be Vantage Pointe's neighbor immediately to the west. Just south of Mondrian will be an as yet unamed Bosa project on the northern half of the block bounded by 8th and 9th & B & C Streets. On the southern half of that block will be a park.

If Mondrian has 900 units, I think it will be the largest residential building in California
