I finally went to Primetime tonight. I won a contest to name its previous incarnation, the Spillery, but I never collected because I felt it was too dirty to eat there and I wasn't in town much at that time.
Tonight a friend wanted to try the place that moved in to Capo's space in Inglewood. She didn't know what it was called so we drove over to 9th Ave and found out it is a breakfast/lunch diner, so I suggested we try Prime Time where the Spillery was, next to the Sev.
They have re-done the whole restaurant and it is very nice.
No more VLTs which is fine with me.
We had the house pinot grigio which was drinkable for $25.
To start we tried the Mediterranean prawns and artichoke dip. They were both very tasty and we cleaned up.
We both had the $20 rib eye special which came with soup or salad and fried, mashed, or stuffed.
We both had the green salads with house dressing which were fresh and good - not just iceberg.
The steaks came with broccoli and we both chose stuffed potatoes which came with sour cream and bacon bits which seemed real to me. My friend wanted mushrooms, so for $2 extra, we had a pile of huge sauteed mushrooms.
We both left a lot of food behind.
It was a really good tasty unpretentious feed and I would definitely go back.

I'll post a review after I eat there. I'll have to wait for my roommate to go with me or else she'd be unimpressed. She likes Mexican almost as much as she likes Sushi (Ramsayfarian, you and your fellow Speedgang member should go out for sushi sometime ).
excellent! I will be going.

Have always enjoyed SAP - although I have not been there recently. Food, decor, and staff are authentic.

stophs: You mentioned that your wife is from Mexico - what is her opinion of Tu Tierra n Fairmount Drive - stones throw from Kingsland Market.

Good to get the recognition.

Had dinner at Cibo. Awesome. Beautiful room with lots of reclaimed materials. Open kitchen. Food was very good and at very reasonable prices. I had a goat cheese, chicken, artichoke, tomato, green olive pizza. Great crust, wonderful flavour. I really enjoy their appetizer combos you can order too.

Funny you ask, we just got back from dinner there with about 20 Mexicans. She ordered the tacos al pastor, which is pretty much her favourite food. Both her and another Mexican friend that ordered the same thing said that it was ok, but not like the tacos al pastor they are used to. Also, they served them with wheat tortillas which I was surprised to see.

Overall though I'd say the place is pretty good. Everyone agreed that the horchata there is pretty amazing; it's almost worth going just for that. The portions are pretty large too (especially for the tacos and alambres).

The comments, as I had hoped, are full of vitriol and hate. Online newspaper comments never disappoint.

I saw that Rusty had commented a couple times in Calgary's defense. People honestly say some of the dumbest things in the moments section.

Had dinner last night at the Bavarian Inn in Bragg Creek. Food and service were both outstanding. My only complaint is that they are not located in Calgary - even though the drive out there is beautiful.

We seriously need to get that gang started.

Olives opened this weekend. I heard that the chef from JaroBlue is running the show.

Red Ember is now - for the time being at least - my new favourite sushi place in Calgary. Two meals there have sealed it.

This is the spot on 14 St NW a little north of Globefish that used to be Sushi Kai. Very, very excellent.

Great news out here in Canmore where the Gourmet Croissant is back albeit under a different name which escapes me - but same building, same original owner (s) and the pastries are as stunning as ever!!

Sad to see Railway Deli close as it was a decent alternative to Valbella, but the location sucked & rents were astronomical by all accounts.

Still the dining scene out here is healthy, especially coffee wise as we have Phil & Sebastian at Mountain Mercato, Intelligentsia at Communitea & the best pastries at the new incarnation of Gourmet Croissant!!

Does anyone know when the Buffalo Wild Wings on McLeod is opening? Can't find anything via google search or on their website/facebook page.

Nothing to think about. He's exactly right. It was posted upthread a while ago.
