it is for now with certain limitations. national parks (e.g. crissy field, presidio, GGNRA) etc are off limits as far as i know. anything within 5 miles of an airport, etc.

you're not supposed to go out of line-of-sight (i never do,) and you must stay below 400 feet. i may have accidentally gone a bit higher than that once, but generally i keep it in the 200-400 foot range.

they also now have to be registered and labeled with the FAA, although for existing users like me that doesn't kick in for a few months.

personally, i never fly when there are people around, which limits use to very early in the morning, on holidays or weekends, dusk/twilight from certain locations, or rooftop takeoffs in less busy areas. safety aside, it's super annoying having a stream of people coming up to you, distracting you, commenting, asking questions, etc. "can it deliver my groceries!?!?!" "are you taking pictures through my window!??!?!" "how much did that cost!?!?!" etc....

This is an angle we haven't seen before of the city's newest skyscraper district. Outstanding!

Awesome thread. Don't worry about resizing......the big pics are fantastic and can be resized by adjusting Chrome.

i've been doing some shooting on and off this year. starting with two shots from outside the city proper:

1 it's interesting how the oakland shore mixes actual industry with recreation

2 and from that same locale, a view over the bay

3 some views with different focal lengths (50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8 ), and looking "down" rather than out towards the horizon

4 density mmmmmmmmmmm

5 where were all the nimbys back in the day to prevent these high rises from RUINING pacific heights!?!?! the horror!

6 this series pushes the envelope on the shutter speeds a bit given the moving, vibrating platform.

7 i can't wait to shoot this one again with 181, salesforce tower, tb9 and tb8!

8

and finally, this very morning, a bit more exciting flight in which some fast moving low clouds or fog blew in below me (or more properly, between me and the hexacopter.) no loss of control but some tense moments on descent waiting for visual contact to be regained!
