Last night (10/11) I went out on my deck for a smoke, and it looked like COMCAST II was on fire, literally.
The flame was so bright, it lit up the sky.
I thought is this the lantern light?
I live in Port Richmond which is a distance away.
It went on for a good half hour, maybe more.
I went to bed so I couldn't say for how long.

I figure they had to be welding.
They must be welding the hell out of that steel.....So maybe it's back to work?

I saw a very large piece of steel being hoisted up to the south side of the cooling tower around 4:45 yesterday afternoon so clearly work is resuming on the tower. Presumably the welding you saw was the installation of the new pieces being hoisted. Hopefully vertical action will resume.

Yeah, that steel had to be huge. That flame was almost 3 stories tall. I was half way listening for sirens, God forbid. I stood out there for some time. So I figure it was welding, but wow, it was a huge flame!
Good to hear, maybe this is going to top off before Halloween? Definitely, by Thanksgiving.

whatever they were welding doesn't appear to be new vertical steel (above the existing height of the cooling towers) according to the webcam. I wonder if it was a replacement piece due to the cracking, or perhaps it's still sitting up there waiting to be sent vertical.

The webcam isn't always particularly up to date. Anyone have a vantage point and can see if there's any vertical work? I can check in a bit if no one else can.

I haven't been on this thread for a while so pardon if this has already been discussed. The building has been topped out for a while but there has been no progress on the spire. I assume work is occurring on the exterior and perhaps interior as well. But I'm eager for that spire to go up and become the tallest structure in the skyline and to see if it balances out what is currently a chubby building.

Cracked steel was found in the cooling tower structure, so work stopped. Inspections and repairs have been going on. We should see upward progress again soon. Some folks think they've already seen it, but it's not perceptible to me from the ground.

Perhaps. Because there isn't any vertical progress. This might take longer than I originally thought. Christmas is coming....

I heard they are dismantling the cooling towers, and they revised the design of the building to an additional 20 floors of office space....THEN by that time they will iron out the steel problems.
