Coca-Cola reveals Olympic hospitality plans

Coca-Cola reveals Olympic hospitality plans

Coca-Cola is one of the top-tier sponsors of Vancouver 2010. During the Games it aims to have an extensive presence with a corporate HQ stationed at Granville Island Hotel.

Sustainability is at the top of its agenda. The soft drink giant has commissioned a Haida artist, Clarence Mills, to create a totem pole on the island during the Games and the artwork will be auctioned, with the proceeds donated to the Aboriginal Youth Legacy Fund. The company, which is trying to reduce its carbon footprint during the Olympics, will also provide 20 bicycles for their guests to use while staying at the hotel.

Why is Coca-Cola sponsoring the Games?

The Coca-Cola Company is the longest serving corporate partner. The 1928 Amsterdam Games marked our first involvement and, since then, we have been passionately dedicated to bringing athletes and the public memorable experiences.

What sort of presence are you planning?

We aim to provide a quintessential West Coast Canadian Experience that will reinforce our main values for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games - active living and sustainability.

Our hospitality programme will be located in the heart of Vancouver at the Granville Island Hotel. We aim to provide our guests with easy access to Olympic venues and the Coca-Cola Open Happiness House.

The Coca-Cola Happiness House will be our live site, open to the public as well as corporates. It will be based in David Lam Park in Vancouver and will encourage visitors and guests to be social, spontaneous and engaged in the Games. It will bring delegates together in celebration and national pride with an emphasis on sustainability.

During the games the city will host a nightly fireworks display and we aim to give our delegates ideal views of this. We will also have a retail presence, Happiness Cafe, which will be located in the HBC Superstore in the Downtown Bay.

Sounds better to me than spending hundreds of dollars to drink Molson Canadian.
