It was going to happen anyway.

Even the Ford government had re-committed to it after putting it under review.

This might mean more federal 'gifts' of funding, especially if a federal election happens in the next couple of years.

I have a feeling the PC will drag the negotiation with FN’s on though... That’s what they do.

The last part makes sense to me now. With a looming election in a few years, liberals actually need to cash out on their promises.

I found something interesting about putting bike paths back in, when I was trying to find the interchange design for North Bay Expressway to no avail.

All 4 laning should always have a secondary road that follows it as an EDR. The fact that this is ignored is a bad thing. When an accident happens, the highway could be closed for well over 4 hours.

Exactly.

Plus having EDR means a maximum speed limit of 110 km/h is achievable.

It’s insane: MTO goes all over the top to perfect the design for freeways but leaves no thoughts about EDR’s (unless converting a 2-lane arterial into a freeway requires full-on realignment). I would rather just have diamond interchanges everywhere with a paved 6-metre wide EDR in a reasonable distance.

The EDR is called highway 11.

More like 141/124/522, 11 then 17, which is something else.

I remember one time back when Highway 11 was 2 lanes. There was a train derailment just south of South River. It ended up on the highway. The highway was closed for days while they cleared the train. People were talking about the detour around it was taking 4 hours.

Just imagine working on one side and living on the other?
