Certainly not the most convenient of locations but better than nothing.
According to the CBC, Ikea says that both Moncton and Saint John are naturally in their sights for future stores!

"The company recently announced plans to open stores in Halifax and Quebec City.

"Moncton and Saint John are natural next steps in our plan to grow the Ikea brand in Canada," she said.

And things like that is why it is so important for Freddy to break into the CMA category. I'm sure if you could see Ikea's "next steps" list and compared it to the CMA list in this country, it would probably be nearly a 1-1 match.

Still, two Ikea stubs in the province, especially if they are the mini-store formats will be quite the feather in NB's cap going forward. (especially if/when Freddy snags a third)

I might be a bit cynical but I think that these Collection Points are almost purely just a tactic for gauging interest in various markets into which IKEA is looking to expand.

Logistically they are not that complicated. IKEA isn't staffing or building a store, they're just hiring a third party that already is involved in distributing their products and offering an additional option which is arguably less convenient for customers but saves everyone (meaning IKEA, the courier, and the customer) money.

In theory they could pepper the country with these, but they haven't.

I'm not nearly as optimistic as you are - his quotes are below and really just say that having a collection point doesn't preclude a city from having a store and Saint John and Moncton are natural next steps in growing the brand - which they have by putting in a collection point. Here's hoping though!

"Having a collection point does not preclude a city from getting an Ikea store in the future if the market supports it," Fitzpatrick said.

"Moncton and Saint John are natural next steps in our plan to grow the Ikea brand in Canada," she said.

IKEA basically has three levels of stores (with full-blown IKEA locations at the top and collection points at the bottom). There's potential, if the collection points do well, for SJ and Moncton to be considered for that second-tier of store (IKEA-branded delivery locations, effectively) but neither are anywhere large enough for a full IKEA store at this stage. I wouldn't be expecting an IKEA to open up in NB in the next ten years at least.

That's a perfect use for the space adjacent to Picaroons; and since they're sharing an owner I'd imagine they'll allow people to carry drinks from Picaroons over to the cafe.

I'll miss Real Food Connections, but this is a great silver lining.

I think they are referring to the collection points.

HMV is shutting down nationwide.

It's really not looking good for McAllister Place!

As one of the few millennials who actually likes to buy movies and music on physical media, that's a shame. But it is what it is, I suppose.

At least now my father will stop constantly getting HMV and H&M confused.

I don't know if this has been said or not but Jungle Jims is going in next to Shoppers where Blockbuster used to be. This is according to the site plan of Lancaster Mall.

Jungle Jim's cited clientele and renovations/upgrades required to their Uptown location for the move IIRC. The former Blockbuster at Lancaster is more in-line with their locations in other areas.

Not surprising, when a store does the jump into the Maritimes, they'll either focus just on Halifax, or they'll try to hit as many of the big 6 (NB's 3, Halifax, Sydney and Charlottetown) at once as they can, so they get/use a full distribution network all at once.

Looks like Mastermind is doing the later, so we can expect Moncton and Halifax announcements soon (if not Sydney and Charlottetown announcements as well)

I would imagine that the Saint John Mastermind Toy store will actually be the first one in the region.

I know that the Corbett Centre site plan indicates a Freddy store too, but if you go on the Mastermind website, they have a job advert for a SJ manager, but nothing for Freddy as of yet........

Any hints on where the SJ store will be?

The Freddy store needs an entire new building to be built, so it probably won't be started until April, and likely not be ready for opening until September. I'm sure they'll want to aim for an August opening to hit the BTS to XMas period.
