It will be great to see that empty parking lot gone.

I assume this is the former gas station just south of the CTV building, near to the Eastlink building? I wonder if it will require Eastlink to relocate their satellite dishes somewhere else as they would be blocked by this structure.

This proposal has been revised. Now a more slender tower of 17 storeys is proposed.

Are you sure you linked the right thread? The only real similarity is that the models were made in the same program?

A municipal committee has recommended that a development proposal for the city’s north end go ahead, with the caveat that staff work with the developer to include affordable housing. But Halifax has no power to compel developers to make their units more affordable.

WM Fares Architects applied on behalf of the property owner, BANC Investments Inc., to construct a 17-storey residential building at 2859 Robie St., between Macara and Bilby streets — currently a vacant property.

About a week ago Russell Street between Agricola and Robie was converted to one way (westbound). I thought it was a bit strange so I did some digging and it turns out the Encroachment on Public Right of Way permit has been issued for this site which means excavation is imminent.

Application #: 181022
Issued Date (d m y): 01 05 2020
Declared Value: 0
Existing Dwelling Units: 0
Total End Units: 0
Civic Number: 5858
Street Name: MACARA
Street Type: ST
Community: HALIFAX
PID: 00160598
Activity Type: ENCROACHMENT ON PUBLIC ROW

Good find, and good news! North Robie & environs is turning into quite the highrise residential district considering this, Richmond Yards, and the Lion's Head among other recent and prospective future projects. I could picture a scenario where the parking lots across the street are developed, and maybe even an improved streetscape with buried power lines and a median (acknowledging that Robie will still be a major thoroughfare).

The area also seems to be at a relatively high elevation and so I imagine the views are impressive. Conversely, the current cluster(ish) of buildings is visible when approaching the peninsula from both East and West i.e. either the 102 or the bridges.

Excavator and concrete barriers are onsite. I've added this to my regular walking route. The link embedded in the photo is a direct link for my photos of this development. As always I'll post regular updates here.

Construction mitigation measures are being installed. Macara is narrowed and one-way westbound, Bilby has been narrowed, and the eastern sidewalk on Robie Street is closed. Boards are also being installed as a visual barrier.

They're closing the sidewalk on a busy stretch of Robie with no crosswalks anywhere nearby?? Who the heck approved that?

Isn't there a crosswalk a block away at Robie and Almon? Maybe not as close as possible, but not that far away either.

The sidewalk closure forces pedestrians to make a 350-metre detour around the block. If you're walking north you could backtrack and use the marked crosswalk you mentioned, but most of the local destinations (restaurants and shops) are on the east side of Robie.

Yeah, which isn't really an acceptable solution, especially when there is tons of road space to create pedestrian space. Luckily it looks like the full closure was only very temporary while they got everything in place. Last time I went by they had pylons creating a sidewalk in the road. Hopefully that becomes a little more permanent with concrete barriers; it's definitely a vulnerable place to be a pedestrian.
