Those renderings are spectacular.

Residential units range from 420-970 square feet and are one to two bedrooms. Accommodating and efficient designs, which allow people to live comfortably in a smaller footprint.

Yeah, like Kevin said, it's roughly 42 feet wide.
The interesting part is that, at Level 4, it over-hangs the State Theater by almost 2 feet! The really hard part of this project is going to be building the 18" thick shear wall at the elevator core that is up against the north side of the State Theater!

Why aren't they showing floor plans or providing price information? Do they have a sales office yet?

It's a rental.

Did not realize that. I somehow imagined it was going to be small and relatively affordable condo units.

Typical floors (9-30) are only 6 units per floor. And they're pretty small. I could send you a .pdf of the layout from the drawings if you really want it. (I don't have anywhere to host it, so I can't link it.)

I really like the overall design of this building, and the location. I think its going to end up being a trendy place to live. Might even attract some UT students to rent there. I imagine many of them can afford it and didn't bring their cars with them. It would be nice if they included a large area inside to secure bicycles.

I really don't think this will be even remotely affordable for college students

To be fair, there are some nice places in west campus that rent for almost as much. For example, my condo in west campus rented out for $2200 a month for a 2br in 2013. Meanwhile my rent in a 2br downtown was $2700. Not a huge jump, and there are certainly people who will want to do that, even if it's not a lot.

I disagree. If I recall correctly, one of our posters here is/was a UT student who lives/ed at the Bowie.

When I lived downtown my rent was $2500 for a 2 bed, and the building was easily 25% students.

It goes without saying that ALL students could afford it, but trust me, some will. There is a shit load of money at UT. Even the shittiest UT dorms are upwards of $1000/mo to share a 12x12 room with a bathroom down the hall. (of course that includes food and all bills, but per sqft, they pay UT a ton for that space)

The Avenue updated their website. No new construction info, but there is a small crap load of new interior renderings in the "About" section:

This project has changed to a hotel. An approved site plan change was posted today. The file attached to the permit has some info. The building doesn't seemed to have changed. The square footage will remain the same and parking is still off site. No word on the operator or a name change.

There is definitely a trend among apartment tower proposals.

Was just thinking about this. A trend away from rental -- and mostly even residential -- to commercial -- in the CBD.

I still think the Hyatt thing is up by UT, but this is a surprising development. The building itself will almost an exact twin of the Aloft/Element though I bet the room count will be lower, maybe in the mid 200s. The lot seems skinnier.

My bet is a luxury/boutique brand or limited service. Generally meaning: a hotel that doesn't need ballroom space.

I have a limited understanding of how these things go, but I don't know that the developers are trending away from rental per se. I believe the developers of 300 Colorado were approached with the idea of turning the residential building plan into an office plan. They didn't just decide to change on their own whim. They were talked into it (with money?). Something similar could be what has happened with the Avenue.

At any rate, this might speed up the development of the building.
