Here in Regina for business meetings and drove by the site....it was deserted....actually looks abandoned, but I am sure that is only how it "looks", as there obviously work that has and is going on...?

Nope. The project has been a fiasco from the get go and it still is.

It's definitely a fiasco, but work is still going on... sometimes.

It's very stop and go. They'll be gwlrking strong for a couple weeks and make a lot of progress and then nothing happens for the next few weeks/months after that.

At this point, I think it would be pretty awesome if they just rebuilt the Plains hotel.

^Haha. Worst case scenario is this continues for another ten years and the city finally steps in to do something about it. One of the other developers picks it up and builds the hotel/condos, but on a smaller scale, say 18 stories.

Past the mid-May mark. Any permits for closing the street to erect a crane floating by city hall?

This time, it’s for real.

That was the message from the groundbreaking ceremony at the Capital Pointe project site at Victoria Avenue and Albert Street on Thursday morning. The on-again, off-again, $100-million, 27-storey condominium-hotel complex was on again, but this time for good.

“Getting here has not been easy,’’ said Jawad Rathore, president and CEO of Fortress Real Developments. “This project has had starts and it’s had stops.”

But Rathore said the project — launched by local investors in 2005, but dogged by setbacks, financial and otherwise, that have delayed its construction for three or four years — is finally getting into the ground this fall.

“As you can see, work has started. You have our commitment that work is going to continue and it’s not going to stop,’’ Rathore said, referring to the large backhoe at the former Plains Hotel site. “Nothing is more exciting for us as a developer than to put a shovel in the ground.”
-Jawad Rathore, October 2015

Rebuild the Plains in Regina... And then re-use the plans and build a replica on the SkyCity Centre Site.

^Naw, re-build the Winnipeg Tribune building that was previously on the site in Winnipeg. That'd be fantastic.

Too expensive. Because of your greed, you get a stucco version of the Plains Hotel.

Today is an important milestone as "CP Toronto" aka Bisha is set to gain occupancy this summer and have the hotel section open.

- Urban Toronto

I bring up this project because I have used it as a time tracker against CP here in Regina. When I first visited Toronto in 2008 there were adverts for Bisha, and then the applications, pre-sales, and construction started to roll around 2009. Since then it has been hit with a bunch of delays and has been one of the slowest construction sites in downtown Toronto. There was a time when many thought the tower would not get built as first time builders, who were club promoters, partnered with known builder but seemed to constant get plagued by issues with poor sales being one of the rumours as well.

Fast forward to now and one of the more plagued projects in Toronto is now almost done while CP in Regina is still a pit. Now that I am in the industry I more than ever have little faith this project as it was envisioned will ever get built.

"We will reach ground level in July 2017", of course with Fortress that comment from back in the fall of 2016 could be open to interpretation!

It's a parking lot worth $37.3 million though!

Not sure what's worse. Having millions in loans on a parking lot or on a hole in the ground. At least the parking lot brings in money.
