The iron curtain is down (into the ground) and digging preparations have begun ...

Yes, digging has definitely started. How deep? Well I can't see the excavater sitting in the hole digging out the dirt, that much I can tell you. I'll snap another photo from the 10th floor of Place Bell in a few days when things have progressed further.

Is anyone else amazed that this thing is actually getting built? It seems like such a long time since they first posted the renderings. I still think the finished product can go either way and, like the Lorne Building, it will depend on the glass they use.

I was shocked when the news broke that the new Lorne building was a go and yes i was just as shocked when this project broke ground.

I'm excited for this project because I think it adds something new to Ottawa. But I agree, it could go either way depending on the glass they use, hopefully it turns out like the pictures!

Question City Hall LRT station

With all the residential and office space intensification in the lower downtown area so close to City Hall and cost cutting having to stay within budget, has any thought been given to make City Hall a DOTT station between Downtown East and the Campus station?
It would be more serviceable and could travel over the canal and thus save a lot of money for now.
An underground extension to the Market and Rideau Street could be built at a later date when the economy picks up again (probably 5 to 10 years from now).

^I'd guess it's much more likely that they would add a station at Laurier and Waller than realign the whole route away from Rideau St. in order to service the area around City Hall.

I wonder if the Dworkin Furs house on Rideau Street is a heritage building. It would be nice if they did something similar to 150 Elgin when it's developed.

I 100% agree. I hope someone in Heritage at the City is thinking the same thing...

Reminds me of the "Cathedrale" development in downtown Montreal. In other words, nice.

While the tower here may be shrinking, the ground level features may be worth the long wait to get this project going. Let's hope they stick to 21 storeys and no less.
