I've been looking for an updated list of projects for Metrotown as there's been a lot of action lately, so I guess this is where you'd find it.

Glitzy new addition to wave of new office construction aims to be Vancouver's greenest

FRANCES BULA
VANCOUVER— Globe and Mail Update
Published Saturday, Sep. 24, 2011 12:24PM EDT

Quote:
A European consortium is preparing to develop a new office tower in Vancouver, a first in the city’s recent downtown development and a potential glitzy new addition to an existing wave of new office construction.

The planned 400,000-square-foot tower, to be made public Monday by Credit Suisse AG and Swissreal Investments Inc., will be aiming for construction that’s at the highest environmental certification level ever seen in the city for an office building – LEED Platinum.
Quote:
The building design displayed by the architects, Iredale Group Architecture, shows a strikingly modern tower made up of two distinct components that envelop and preserve the city’s Old Stock Exchange Building on 800 West Pender St.

Very interesting design. I like it! Though I have no idea in hell how they expect vines to grow that high. Unless they plan to plant roots every 6 or 7 floors, which is possible, but rather expensive, as it requires complex water and drainage systems for the soil.

Construction Methods

Regarding construction methods in Vancouver.

Can anyone tell me what is the prefered method of constructing the centre core walls of a concrete structure in Vancouver? Is it using jumpforms, slipforms or crane handled wall forms?

Thanks,

What's the point in adding taller buildings, if they hide the city's most unique and valuable feature--a backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

A 700-footer will block out the mountains ?

Can any Vancouverites? Vancouverans? ...Vancouvers? provide me with a few notable Vancouver architecture firms? I have always loved the region but have no idea what quality of firms are in the area... and looking for Canadian firms tends to be harder than you would think.

There arent too many notable firms out of Vancouver, but some of the smaller shops do some great work.

My personal favourite is Henriquez Partners: http://www.henriquezpartners.com/

Other big shops include:

Bing Thom Architects: http://www.bingthomarchitects.com/

Abbarch Architecture: http://www.abbarch.com/

James K. M. Cheng: Doesnt have a website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_K._M._Cheng

Kasian: http://kasian.com/

Plus a few large offices of international firms:

Busby Perkins + Will: http://www.perkinswill.ca/

IBI: http://www.ibigroup.com/Pages/Home.aspx

B+H: http://www.bharchitects.com/#

Here's a list of major firms from a few years back: http://www.omicronaec.com/resources/...Architects.pdf

Would you happen to know of any more small shops? I have little to no interest in large firms, I find that the work of small, boutique firms tends to be the most intriguing and successful.

I appreciate the assistance

^What he said.

I don't know the small players all that well. Most that I've worked with I forget soon after the project just because there are so many of them.

I'll put in another plug for Henriquez though. They aren't that big and they do some really cool stuff.
