Excellent pics. But I do not like that clown sculpture. That is too freaky.

Ostankino tower is getting long-time missed high-rise support
more towers are planned in that direction, so eventually there will be a northern skyline

recently completed Triumph Palace, perhaps an architechtural Faux Pax, but Moscow will survive it; it will be a monument to transition from XX to XXI century architechture in Moscow

Great shots, great city! Thanks a lot for posting these, anm!

BTW, whta happened with Hotel Moskva. Did they tear it down and rebuild it, as was said iirc, or just renovate?

1. my pleasure

2. There is a thread on SCC about Hotel Moskva reconstruction. In short, the building has been completly taken apart and rebuilt (with more underground space). The front of it will retain the notorious asymmetry, the cladding will be a little different.

This is example of the new cladding, photo by Mr. MyXin, SSC

render

The most important change is the back of the building (facing Teatralnaja Square) - it will be restored according to one of original Schusev blueprints.

what you are seeing is an later add-on to the building, not part of Schusev design

^Maybe that wasn´t such a bad idea after all! I was very sceptical when I first heard of it, but the renderings look really good. Thanks again, anm.

I was ambivalent about it first but now come to the same conclusion. One problem in Moscow and Russia is that officials never explain anything before they do such things leaving everybody guessing what we are going to get in the end. It speeds up things but too many important decisions are made with little or no public control.
