Interesting...though I'm not looking forward to seeing Metros strewn all over the place as they are in other cities. People take it, flip through it for 30 seconds and then fire it into the street.

In Ottawa they have guys shoving these papers in your face at bus stops. Metro and 24h (another free daily just like Metro) are basically teaser tabloids with short versions of wire stories.

Channel Zero wants a business news radio station. They are going to the CRTC.

Torstar/Metroland enter their second day of a significant outage of the newspapers' web content. The dailies are running limited article posts on what is a big news period post-federal budget. No word on what is the root cause, and how subscribers to The Spec's new paywall service will be reimbursed for the service interruption.

According to Dreschel, Peggy Chapman must be involved somehow and the mayor's office could soon be raided by the RCMP, CSIS and the CRTC. At least that's the rumbling I have been hearing from my anonymous sources.

In three days they've had one article from The Spec, and one article about Ontario in general. Not off to a great start...

Really glad to see that. He's going to bring a lot to CBC Hamilton, for sure.

Porn movie overtakes CHCH broadcast

http://www.thespec.com/news/local/ar...s-ch-broadcast

CHCH television’s signal went dark this morning shortly after the regular news broadcast was overtaken by a porn movie.

Viewers of the Morning Live news broadcast were confronted with hard core sex scenes for about three minutes before the channel stopped broadcasting.

Reaction to the event was immediate on Twitter.

“Someone hacked CHCH news to play gay porn... And every TV in the gym and starbucks was set to it...”

“Watching #chch news when channel cut out and turned into male gay porn.”

We are attempting to reach the network to determine what happened.

CHCH is owned by Channel Zero, which operates several adult movie services.

Pretty sure they're feeling the heat from CBC, is what it means, and they're going to try to replicate their format. I can definitely say that since CBC Hamilton started up, I barely ever go back to the Spec. CBC Hamilton has a better site design, doesn't use subscription based content and honestly, I love Paul Wilson's pieces. I also really like the arts and local/downtown slant.

What I like about CBC is that their articles about downtown are generally upbeat and positive. In contrast, you have the Spec's backhanded efforts with headlines such as 'Pathetic / Useless / Forgotten / Scary downtown gets a boost...' etc.

It's also nice that there isn't 3 pages of unintelligible, negative commenting attached to the articles.

I enjoy it too, although I'm never sure how much of that is intentional or just a practical constraint. It often seems like they have ankle monitors on and are confined to Wards 1-4.
