Den Bosch, the Netherlands

Went on a field trip yesterday with my colleagues. Someone had organized a tour around the city of Den Bosch, capital of the Dutch province Noord-Brabant. First we went by boat, then went to a restaurant to eat an appetizer, then we were picked up by a guide who lead us through the city to the next restaurant where we had dinner. After that off into the city again to the next restaurant to have dessert. It was a great day. I took waaaaaay too much photos once again.

Saint John's Cathedral. The only cathedral in the Netherlands. It dominates the city and can be seen from a big distance outside the city.

The sign says: Calling with the angel....
Angels. Like messengers between heaven and earth, between God and humanity, they bring togehter two realities. And in this modern time, they do this in a modern way. By phone. Typical angels: Always out there to help you.

Statues after paintings of Hieronymus Bosch

Trickey way to get to your garden....

Remains of the very first city walls.

Plenty of architectural styles in Den Bosch. This is the typical style of the Amsterdam School.

Plenty of architectural styles. Not always the best looking....

Natural preserve area. Right outside the city center.

Modern, but very well fitting....

The text on the mailbox says: Behind the Angel weewee.

Beautiful tile wall of a bakery.

Modern angel, carrying a cell phone and wearing jeans.

Old school candy store

Apotheek means chemist. The link between chemist and the unicorn is as follows. In Middle Ages, people believed that the colour of the horn of a unicorn would change when put into poison. This would prevent people from eating poisoned food. What are chemists doing? Yep, mixing toxics and poison.

Very nice and quaint town! I like it, like all the dutch cities, towns and villages. The cathedral is really pretty. The streets of Den Bosch look quiet and pleasant to enjoy a walk.

Thanks for sharing. Congrats and greetings from Madrid, Spain.

Great pictures! Living in a town like this must be really pleasant. Even a cloudy day seems pretty nice.

IMO people that live in the old town center are really privileged. Back in the old days, the poor people lived in the houses along and above the river. Nowadays it is the happy few that can afford to live there.

Great tour - you"ve picked out some real gems there - like the wall of the bakery. Love all the different angles on that Cathedral, too.

Nice city like most dutch cities, rarely heard about but deserves more attention.

Nice pics! Thanks!

De St. Jan is by no means the only cathedral in the Netherlands though. There are currently 7 plus another 6 former cathedrals:
