Fascinating. That's really cool. Thanks!

I usually use the "gold leaf standard" to measure the profusity of covers. The quality standards are ranking of one to ten. So a song with lots of covers by established musicians will get a 10. One that only has a few uploaded to youtube means that it is going to lose a few points on that. But I also have to factor in that youtube will not have everything so it does come down to me guessing and that is why I estimate the numbers that go into the Q.

For example the number of covers has to compete against the question of the level of relative greatness of a tune. For example, I have to weigh whether a tune has the greatest solo for any given any instrument. This song scrapes in at the bottom of the minuimum (in the rating system, I cut off at the value of 100) because it quite possibly has the best kazoo solo ever committed to tape.

From awful song, gorgeous video... to gorgeous song, awful video. Live from the 2008 NLFF. But it's Amelia... and it's "Bye bye, Montreal!" It's one of her most famous locally, after Mistress.

Listening to Geraldine again. The Once really is my favourite band.

I remember the time when my Granddad and I
Would sit by the fire at night
And I'd listen to stories of how he once lived
By the glow of the kerosene light

He said Mom and Dad'd send me off to school
Where I learned how to read and to write
And I'd listen for hours as I read from my books
By the glow of the kerosene light

Your Grandma and I we were wed at 16
Lord, she was a beautiful sight
And proudly I placed the ring on her hand
By the glow of the kerosene light

About one year later, your Daddy was born
And your Grandma held my hand so tight
I can't tell the joy as she brought forth new life
By the glow of the kerosene light

But having her child, it did weaken her so
She just wasn't up to the fight
And she looked so peaceful and she went to her rest
By the glow of the kerosene light

Then as now the times they were hard
To succeed, you'd try all your might
And sometimes love bloomed, and sometimes dreams died
By the glow of the kerosene light

I was dog sitting for a friend nearby... ugh... it was nice being able to hear it but at the same time torture for not being in the crowd.

I'm sure it's not BY us - but it's a local band (the one I'm named after, lol). One of the only Irish language songs (partially) I can sing verbatim.

My French is nowhere near good enough to figure out if this is a cover of Bourvil's song from 1964 but the melody isn't the same and I M not sure but the words aren't the same either. If this isn't a cover of Bourvil, then I would be curious to who penned the tune.

I THINK they're Canadian. There's a Drake remix of this song, so presumably TO.

Some notes: it looks like I way invert the ratio by chance. I could very well run into the issue of having 60% French, 40% English. Which, in a way kind of makes sense. The share of French Canadians in the wealthy Francosphere is greater than the share of English Canadians in the wealthy Anglosphere.

First of a bunch for consideration by Xelebes. Not sure if they fit the criteria but these will all be classics of French Canada.

Jours de plaine - by Franco-Manitoban Daniel Lavoie

Awesome sense of place IMO
